10 Days in Europe

Matthew Klint Posted onApril 30, 2013December 9, 2016 4 Comments

The last few days have been hectic—travel from coast to coast, the Freddies, final exams, and a term paper. Thankfully, that is all behind me now and I will be taking a breather for the next week and a half.

A breather for me simply means a change venue….I’ll still be working on award bookings and updating the blog, but it will be from Europe.

Tonight I fly to Germany, where I’ll spend the rest of the week. Next week, I’ll check out Malta and then visit a family friend in France that I have not seen in nearly a year and a half.

United Airlines again, of course, but I am closing in on my million miles so that loyalty may be coming to an end, though not necessarily. With increased competition and a glut of additional inventory on the Newark-Los Angeles/San Francisco routes, my complimentary upgrade record has been perfect lately on the transcon flights I never used to clear and I have enjoyed, with the exception of the loud redeye to Philadelphia last month, consistently good service on United. So once I achieve MMer status I may just stay, though sitting on a regional jet right now drinking out of a plastic cup in first class with no meal and no wi-fi, I have to wonder how United can maintain such a competitive disadvantage over American and Delta on these outsourced routes.

Anyway, I know you have been patiently waiting for my Afghanistan report and I also have a review of the Park Hyatt Baku soon to be published. Just be patient—the material is written, I just must upload the media. That takes sometimes, but these reports would not be complete without pictures and video.

What are you majoring in/what college?

It must be difficult to manage traveling all over+ focusing on college.

I feel your pain, used an RPU to upgrade an early morning 3.5 hour flight (living midcon that’s about as long as they get) and then the equipment got switched to an RJ… Imagine my disappointment…

No more exams or papers. Definitely time for some fun travel. Have a great trip!

Good points about United uncompetitive product. My last flight was on an E70. A great plane for shorter flights, but a plastic cup and snack mix does not cut it. The competition is much better.
