$20 in Free American Express Spending at JFK, EWR, LGA, CLE, and IAH

Matthew Klint Posted onDecember 4, 2010November 14, 2023 2 Comments

Receive a statement credit of up to $20 when you make a purchase with an eligible American Express Card at one or more of these participating merchants at the airports listed below. The offer is valid through 12/31/2010 (and started on 11/24 for those who might have already made purchases at the following locations with their AMEX card).

  • Brookstone @ JFK, EWR, LGA, and IAH
  • Dunkin’ Donuts @ JFK, EWR, and LGA
  • Gogo Inflight Internet @ 10,000 ft and above
  • Hudson News @ JFK, EWR, LGA, and CLE

Here’s some of the fine print:

To be eligible for the offer, you must use an American Express Charge Card to make at least one purchase at participating merchants between November 24, 2010 and December 31, 2010. Prepaid, corporate cards, and ExpressPay transactions are not eligible. If your Card is replaced during the promotional period, please call the customer service number on the back of your Card for assistance.

You can receive $1 back for each $1 of purchases, up to a total of $20 in statement credits. Statement credits will generally be issued within 5 days after you complete the required transaction(s) but may take up to 2 billing cycles to post to your account. Your ability to earn rewards may be based on the amount of your purchase after the statement credit has been applied.

What qualifies as an American Express charge card? Good question–it isn’t clear and I haven’t been able to find out after two calls to AMEX. The advertisement, pictured below, only features the three classic American Express cards but I don’t see anything in the fine print that explicitly precludes cards like the Starwood, AA, or Delta AMEX cards from the offer.

In any case, use a plain old AMEX card if you have one, but the other ones *might* work. I’ve got to pick up a plug converter at Brookstone anyway, so I’ll be giving my Delta AMEX a try.

There is nothing to register for–up to $20 will automatically be deducted from your bill.

I would venture to say that the AA Amex would not be eligible for this promotion as it’s issued by CitiBank and not Amex.
