Prepare yourselves…13 months into the rebirth of Live and Let’s Fly and I still am not caught up on trip reports of years past.
I do concede that older hotel and flight reviews have a limited shelf life, but over and over again I see that very little changes. Changes that do take place are muted…like crockery or IFE interface or leather upholstery. When major changes have taken place, I am aware of them and note them. Typically when I post an older flight review, I will link to a very recent one from Flyertalk or another blog to “prove” my review is still relevant.
Furthermore, my trip reports provide a basis for the way I think about and review different products, hopefully establishing a predictable baseline in which I can fairly review every new flight I take. My old reviews still provide a high-level of detail and give you a fair idea of what to expect on the ground and in the air.
Finally, most of my old trip reports are already written. Going back a year or two and trying to remember flights would not serve me well. The only reason I have not published more from the “archive” is due to the immense amount of time it takes to sort through and edit photos.
With that said, I’m going to be playing a catch-up game over the next few months…perhaps even longer. I want to post my reviews of products like Singapore Suites, Qatar Airways First Class, JAL First Class, Malaysia Airlines Air First Class, and Asiana First Class. There are many business class products as well…and even some in economy.
I also have dozens of hotel reviews that have yet to be published and I find hotels change even less than airlines.
CONCLUSION
So here’s my promise: I’ll make clear in the first few paragraphs that I am publishing an older review, so if you don’t want to read something that is more than a year old, you don’t have to. But I think you’ll find my old reviews will still be relevant.
There will be recent trip reports as well — I’ve written a handful of preview posts without posting the full review yet. I’m also flying Qatar Qsuites in a few weeks and that review will go up quickly. Look for an upcoming Aeroflot review too. But I need to catch-up once and for all and now is the time to do it. It may even keep me on the ground longer!
I for one look forward to your reviews, especially if they are more off the beaten path. Excited for this. Keep it coming!
Like you said, stuff doesn’t change that much, and when it does, everyone knows about it (see: Emirates, Singapore, Qatar, etc.).
That being said, I don’t see why you even bother with telling us it’s a delayed post. Slap a 7 onto the date’s year even if it was from 2012… we’ll be none the wiser and you’ll have less BS to sift through.
