After flying Air France First Class last month, I now want to offer a detailed comparison between Air France and Lufthansa.
Thus, when I flew from home from Europe last week I chose Lufthansa First Class. That way, we’ll have two very recent reviews only a few weeks apart.
I’m not going to give a spoiler alert now, but do want to discuss how I will breakdown the comparison posts. I’ll write two posts; one comparing the ground experience and the other comparing the onboard experience.
I’ll compare the ground experience on the following metrics:
- Check-In
- Escort
- Security
- Lounge
- Comfort
- Service
- Food
- Drink
- Car Transport
- Baggage Claim
I’ll then compare the onboard experience on the following metrics:
- Service
- Seat
- Bedding
- Food
- Amuse-bouche
- Caviar
- Appetizer
- Soup
- Salad
- Main Course
- Cheese
- Dessert
- Drink
- Pajamas
- Amenity Kit
- Lavatory
- IFE/Wi-Fi
The one item of comparison that does not fit easily into either post but must be quantified is cost. Therefore, I may need to do a third post talking about the value of the two products and the difficult or ease of obtaining first class seats with miles and points.
CONCLUSION
I think a Lufthansa versus Air France first class comparison is most interesting, but would consider also a comparison between the four European airlines which offer a true first class product; Air France, British Airways, Lufthansa, and SWISS. Would that be something you are interested in?

Is BA actually worth comparing?
Comparing the 4 would be interesting even though it’s a foregone conclusion how BA First will fare.

Yes I would read the post for sure! However, I agree with others that BA isn’t needed.
Yes, but…the seat comparison might be a bit unfair, since AF has a different seat on the A380, while Luntjansa’s seat is uniform throughout their fleet…also the A380 cabin has 9 seats, which can affect the ambiance of the cabin.
In any case, AF does win the on-grounds escort, car transport, and food categories.
You may already be including this somewhere, but a discussion of the process for transit passengers (i.e. security check and passport control) and who provides the most seamless experience would be helpful.
I’d also be interested in a comparo of all four of the Euro majors, though as others have noted it’s going to be brutal for BA.
BA isn’t up there on any level with AF, LH and LX, they offer something more akin to a slightly above average business class as first – their first seats are more densly packed than Virgin Upper Class and their lounges not as good. Compare them on any level to AF, LH and LX and BA will come in no higher than fifth!
My suggestion would be to compare the winner of AF vs LH to the best first class in either ME or Asia. A majority of people who read this blog are probably looking to cash in their miles for the best first class product, no matter the continent.
Good thought. Eventually, once I fly Korean and the new Singapore Suites and Emirates Suites, I will do a top-10 list.
I think a comparison with SWISS would be more in order. SWISS First awards are around as hard as Air France to snag, so they’re closer in terms of exclusivity
I love my wife but she is stretched out . I love paying 1000 dollars an hour for men’s tight hole . Bloggers pimp their body out for money . Which is good because they can’t get a real job .
The 4 way comparison is a good idea. I would keep BA in; it is of interest to show where they behind and by how much.
Also, as the J product on LH and AF can leave a lot to be desired particularly in hard product, the comparison of all the F products can’t be waved away on the grounds BA F is just a good J product – as it is clearly a league above AF a380 J.
