Air New Zealand Trolls Harry And Meghan

Yesterday I wrote about the tempest in a teapot concerning Prince Harry and flying Air New Zealand from Mexico to London. While his seemingly-odd statement made perfect sense when put into context, that has not stopped Air New Zealand from trolling the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Air New Zealand Trolls Harry And Meghan Over Book Reference

In his new book, Prince Harry wrote:

“We told him, leave Mexico right now: A whole new level of harassment is about to rain down on you, so come to Britain. Now. Air New Zealand, first class, booked and paid for by Meg.”

He was referring to Thomas Markle, his father in-law.

This sent the British tabloids in a tizzy, with multiple articles noting that Air New Zealand never flew to Mexico and does not have a first class, and thereby implying nothing Harry wrote in Spare could be trusted.

Rather than clarifying that Thomas Markle lived in Baja California, Los Angeles was the closest major airport, and that Air New Zealand flew from Los Angeles to London nonstop at the time of the incident, Air New Zealand has chosen to poke fun at Harry and Meghan.

“Introducing #SussexClass, apparently coming soon,” Air New Zealand posted on Twitter and Facebook, referencing Harry and Meghan’s royal titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The post also features emojis including a crown and shifty eyes.

— Air New Zealand ✈️ (@FlyAirNZ) January 12, 2023

While we may enjoy a laugh courtesy of Air New Zealand, a Sussex Class would be most welcomed if it included a new business class seat that was not herringbone-style. Because, by my estimation, one reason this story made waves in the first place is that there is no way Air New Zealand’s business class product can be confused for a real first class product. That’s nothing to boast about…

CONCLUSION

Air New Zealand has taken to social media to ridicule Harry and Meghan. I would have expected a little more from the flag carrier, but then again, remember the “sexy cougar” ad campaign? Or the Rico and “the intimate art of touch” ad?

Having royalty is just a horribly stupid idea. A bunch of clowns getting tons of money to do charity and other “work”.

England and GB would be fine without any of them.

      Royalty in the UK?

I’ll choose them every time over the risk of Trump thank you.

The royals and Boris Johnson – the UK gets the worst of both worlds.

This is so very dumb. Other than travel nerds line us who bothers to call it ‘business class’? Everyone calls the most premium seats on the plane ‘first class’, why make fun of someone for this?

That’s certainly not the case in Britain – we take our classes very seriously!

    “I expected more” lol

An airlines trolled a shameless, no talent gold digger and her husband who’s done nothing other than crying big crocodile tears about how he’s in the lucky sperm club and wants all the money and fame but none of the responsibility of being born to wealth.

    They’re fair game.

Air NZ marketing is very smart to grab this by the horns. How much does it cost to pay Nicole Kidman Jennifer Anniston etc to advertise your seat?

The royals saying they chose your airline has to have some cache.

“Poor” Harry has probably never booked a ticket in his life. We can’t expect him to know a lot of regular things. Yawn

Guy is still best known for getting coked up in Vegas with hookers and dressing like a Nazi at a party.

His mom should have started F’ing her staff earlier and stopped at one kid she could have been proud of if she lived.

More of a nice dig than actually trolling, not that Harry needs others to troll him anyway when he does so well on his own.

As I mentioned in your other post, BA flies a daily service to San Diego, which is much closer to Rosarito than LAX is.

Not to be too pedantic, but if we’re calling out Harry for being floppy about a phantom Air New Zealand flight from Baja to London than surely an AV geek should know that BA has has a longstanding daily service to SAN! 😉

Maybe back then Harry and Meghan were wise enough to avoid BA! 😉

These days, though, I just love BA.

Very true, there was a time during the Willy Walsh days at BA that it really felt like an airline that had fallen from grace, but they are definitely more competitive now and the issues between their legacy and new-hire crews seems to have improved!

Also, a little miles tip – It can sometimes be much easier to get award availability on intercontinental flights out of SAN than it is to get out of LAX. BA, JAL and Lufthansa all have service to SAN so if you live in south LA/OC, it’s worth checking out flights originating from San Diego sometimes.
