Nothing like a crazy passenger to disturb an otherwise mundane transcon flight.
An American Airlines flight from LA to Philadelphia was forced to divert to Phoenix after a man who had probably been listening to Alex Jones too much elected to go on a rant about how 9/11 was an inside job and how the government was waging “psychological warfare” against us. He went on to say, “We will all see the truth, and I will be famous today.”
That’s when a pair of passengers jumped up and subdued him, tying him up with a belt and enraging him further. He yelled that he had a gun and even pointed a “finger gun” at people after he was restrained.
The pilot had to circle for an hour to dump fuel and the flight diverted to Phoenix.
He was led off by police, suddenly cooperative:
I hope his man receives a big bill from AA.
And on more observation: once again, there was no Federal Air Marshal to save the day — it was passengers who stepped up to handle the issue, just like always. We see once again that there is no need for the FAM program, for every time an incident like this arises we see that fellow passengers are perfectly capable of constraining the unruly passenger.
