An American tourist became so incensed after missing his flight that he dashed down the jetbridge and began attacking the Airbus A320 aircraft…kicking and punching it in a desperate attempt to get on the flight.
American Tourist Attacks Aircraft, Joins “Mile Cry Club” After Missing Flight In Bogota
The unidentified man, known only as an American tourist, showed up late to board his LATAM flight from Bogota (BOG) to Cartagena (CTG) on August 23, 2024, a domestic flight in Colombia operated by LATAM.
Because he was late to the gate, he was informed he was too late to board the aircraft and would need to be rebooked on a later flight. Enraged, the man bolted behind the gate agents closing out the flight and down the jetbridge.
Reaching the aircraft, he saw the aircraft door had been closed. Rather than give up, he began attacking the A320 aircraft…with his hands and feet.
And this continued for three minutes…and it was all captured by a passenger onboard watching this spectacle unfold.

At one one point, he even tried to operate the joystick used to control the position of the jetbridge, as if that would magically open the aircraft door. During this time, he continued to beg airline staff (who stood several feet away to avoid harm) to let him on the flight.
Finally, he was arrested. The video stops, but he was purportedly hauled off by police and then attacked a police officer while in custody. Amazingly, rather than be thrown into a Colomian prison, he was deported two hours later on the next flight to the USA.
This story has an easy moral: kicking and hitting an aircraft is not going to convince anyone to open the door for you…
Embarrassing. LA offers rebooking options and they fly BOG-CTG at least 10 times a day.
When the aircraft door closes, you are out of luck. Forcing your way never works. However, they can help you. Twice, they have opened the door for me. (Once with United at IAH)
If they don’t help, which is usually the case, try getting their help for the next flight.
Clearly, the passenger was not all there mentally.
Yes, it sucks when you get to the gate, see the aircraft, but the door has been closed. However, the airline was going to rebook him on the next flight to CTG (I think LATAM operates a number of flights a day between the two cities) which yes waiting around for the next flight also sucks, but it sucks a whole heck of lot less than being arrested.
Plus, BOG is not the worst airport to hang around at, decent food choices and enough places to sit to make the wait tolerable.

When he looked into the window, I was kind of hoping for the scene from Bonnie and Clyde. I bet his parents are proud. Actually, they probably encouraged that type of behavior (by not disciplining outbursts).
