An Amazing Delta TV Ad

Matthew Klint Posted onMarch 12, 2012December 9, 2016 8 Comments

Airline television ads are one of my favorite topics on Live and Let’s Fly. I’ve raved about United Airlines ads, been awestruck by British Airways not once, but twice, and been wowed by Virgin Atlantic. But I may have found a new favorite ad:

My favorite part of the commercial is Delta explicitly stating that rules have their limits (“never letting the rules overrule common sense”). It reminds me of a recent discussion on rules we had here and makes me hopeful that by-the-books Delta might take a more lenient approach going forward–like legacy United did. Now if only Lufthansa would have a similar change of heart. But I suppose then they just would not be Lufthansa…

What do you think about this ad?

Brilliant. Can UA hire their ad agency? They need the help.

Great ad. My allegiance for United makes me depressed in that they haven’t done anything this creative or powerful in years.

Having flown Delta, it feels like a bunch of ad hoey. Do you think the organization lives up to the ad?

While not my favorite commercial I always liked Delta’s use of Adiemus in their ads in the 90’s. Here’s a link (only found one in French):

The thing that struck me the most about the ad (and I know I’m really late) is how it seems to be shot in Detroit Metro – the old Northwest’s main hub. And not one of the classic Delta hubs, such as their Atlanta hub.
