Bill Maher Slams United Airlines Food…And Flaunts His Delta SkyMiles

Matthew Klint Posted onApril 13, 2026 34 Comments

Comedian and Real Time host Bill Maher has a beef with the meals on United Airlines…and boasts of a big Delta SkyMiles balance.

Bill Maher Has A Problem With The Food On United Airlines (And A Large Delta SkyMiles Balance)

During his “New Rules” editorial at the end of his program on Friday, Maher said:

“But that’s life. Being an adult often means choosing between two horrible options…like the food on United.”

It’s my understanding that Maher flies private, so this was a probably just an attempt by his writers or AI to be funny…I doubt we’ll be seeing Maher on any United flight anytime soon.

Does he have a point? He certainly did for many years…and most of United’s food option onboard in premium cabins still lag that of American Airlines and Delta Air Lines. That said, the carrier has made great progress on its onboard meals and they are getting better…my bison meatloaf was worth a detour.

You can watch him make the specific pronouncement below (I’ve queued it up) but I also recommend you listen to the entire clip (below).

Regular readers know that in many ways, Bill Maher and I look at the world very differently, particularly when it comes to matters of faith. Even so, Maher and I agree on many things and if you take the time to watch his entire editorial, I think such pragmatism makes a lot of sense.

The ideological purity in politics demand by the far right and far left is cute…sort of like Pope Leo’s naive “reject war always” statement (not that I support the Iran War)…but not realistic. Adults in the room are needed (not narcissists who consider themselves Jesus Christ) and I’m very thankful the Pope’s theory did not prevail in the American Civil War or in World War II. Geopolitics tends to be hopelessly more complicated.

On another note, Maher think the whole Artemis mission was a waste of money and is not impressed. Speaking of the mission he said:

“I’m not a fan of going to the moon. The same question I’ve been asking since I was a kid. Why? Why? Is it worth the money? What are we doing there? It’s just another being f*cking rock. We could spend the more wisely I think. If we were closer to actually having some goal we could reach out there in outer space and by the way, it’s not outer space, its’r gist next door. It’s nothing! I looked this up. Here’s the universe, here’s the moon 250 [thousand] miles away…I have more miles on Delta by the way!”

250,000 miles may separate the earth from the moon, but 25,000 SkyMiles might only get him a one-way flight from Los Angeles to Las Vegas…

Is Maher right on United and the moon mission?

So he’s flying Wheels Up and getting DL skymiles?

That sounds about right. Bill would often say at the end of New Rules, “gotta catch a flight to Vegas” and I guess would then do a standup there. Maybe he did use private jets coordinated by Delta’s affiliates.

Having 250,000 SkyMiles isn’t much of a flex.

Not to mention, it can hardly get you one-way transcon in DeltaOne. SkyPesos indeed.

As long as the government is wasting money, would rather it do so on aspirational projects that inspire the next generation of scientists.

Fair enough, but hey, show those pictures to your kids anyway, they are awesome to behold. And while there are so many problems here on Earth that need our attention, if we’re not trying to reach towards the heavens in some way, I’m really not sure what we’re all doing here. Cue the debate on the meaning of the Tower of Babel…

For real, NASA is still pretty cool. It’s okay to disagree with Bill on topics. He’s usually more chill on his ‘Club Random’ podcast… needs a few puffs first…

While I’d dispute his ability to act as an adult I find it uproarious that he’s actually bragging about Skymiles. That’s like bragging about having herpes.

Thank you for being one of the first/only travel blogs to catch/cover this. I still like to watch Real Time, even though I’m not always on the same-page with Bill’s hot-takes or platforming of certain individuals. That said, I enjoyed attending a live-taping in Los Angeles many years ago. It’s a great experience. Glad there are shows still like it around.

I just remember signing up, getting a call, accepting the opportunity, showing up and loving it. This was back in 2016. Not sure how they’re doing it these days. Same goes for many of the shows and tapings in NYC (like Daily Show, Late Show, The View, etc.) All free. Gotta sign up, show up, wait, clap and laugh a lot. Highly recommend!

Real Time has always been filmed at the CBS lot located at Beverly & Fairfax in LA (it’s next to the LA Farmer’s Market) – ‘The Price is Right” was filmed there for decades. I’m sure you can sign up to get tix online. Just arrive early….they do no hold seats for anyone.

They used to have request section on website, but that was removed during pandemic and never returned. I think Bill, being a narcissist, has a core audience that will gobble up his every word. (I still like him, though).

Maher is a comedian. The united delta jokes were to be relatable, draw some chuckles before diving into subjects he wants people to consider. To me , I found it like the Book of Revelations. ( ha take that Bill ) . The last battle between good & evil, where things are merging for better or worse.

There was a time for everything when we had the fortunes and will to investigate, Perhaps there will be again

Comedian is a term. I’m not sure applies to Bill Maher. His monologue just begs for the audience to clap and laugh. He’s probably one of the worst stand-up comedians to have a show. I’m not sure why HBO continues with him as he is an idiot

Bob . Maher’s political satire and wit seems to escape you. ( And probably my comment as well ). But continue to to believe you’re being saved by the man that now poses as Jesus. I wish you well

+1 Bob. It’s amazing that such a mediocre talent can continue on the air for so long while being, in his own words, cancelled all the time.

While receiving a McDonald’s food delivery to the Oval Office, the president told reporters that he posted a photo that depicted him as a robed, Jesus-like figure because he thought it had depicted him as a doctor. “It’s supposed to be me as a doctor, making people better, and I do make people better,” he said.

If Bill Maher is a far-right loon, then what is Steve Bannon? Or Steven Miller?

You’re obviously looking through a radical extremist progressive lens; an ANTIFA lens, even; and are therefore incapable of making a rational assessment. You should spend a couple of weeks offline, maybe have a few sessions with properly grounded psychologist, and think long and hard about the bizarre and frankly disturbed take you have on the world,
