I recently tried the Asiago bagel sandwich on United Airlines and recommend it as a satisfying breakfast snack on morning flights.
Asiago Bagel Sandwich On United Airlines
United offers a “Bistro on Board” service in economy class for flights over 1,500 miles within the United States (except longhaul Hawaiian routes, which offer complimentary meals). That includes a selection of two breakfast offerings on flights which depart between 5:00AM and 9:59AM; currently an Asiago bagel sandwich or a chia seed pudding from Beatrix Market. Each costs $8, with a 20% savings if you use your United co-branded credit card from Chase. Premier 1K members receive one free food item when sitting in economy class.
When my upgrade did not clear on a recent flight, I chose the sandwich, which was described as a “cage-free egg patty, cheddar cheese, and bacon on an Asiago bagel.”
I’m pleased to report the bagel hit the spot. Rather than being lukewarm or soggy, the food was piping hot and the combo of eggs, bacon, and bagel with cheese quite satisfying.
The nutrition facts were not printed on the label…ignorance is bliss. Eating with the plastic fork and knife was difficult since the bagel was almost toasted so I ended up picking it up. That left my hands greasy, but I had saved the disposable wipe handed to me during boarding, which allowed me to clean up my hands after finishing the sandwich.
One other note. United continues to serves a pair breakfast sandwiches in first class on shorter flights and I wish this sandwich would be used instead, as it is much better than either option.

CONCLUSION
While I always prefer it when my upgrades clear, at least Premier 1K members don’t go hungry in the back. I would order the Asiago bagel sandwich again. If you are traveling on United on a domestic flight over 1,500 miles, do consider this option and at $8 it probably is cheaper than most thing you’ll buy at the airport.
I can only imagine the nutrition facts. A hard pass for me.
Spot on! I could not agree more!
As someone who loves breakfast sandwiches, this is definitely one of those things that to me looks amazingly delicious and revolting at the same time 😉
That’s a totally fair way to describe it!
Sandwiches are good but if offered without any meat will be better for all. Vegetarian bagel with cream cheese is healthy and can help vegetarians as well as non vegetarian travelers.
Having flown in economy in EVA a few times & enjoying the service & food they serve – nothing in the USA domestic market compares!
Pass for me, especially at $8 a sandwich!
I’ll stop somewhere on the way beforehand!
Good. You do that. This sandwich is good.
Looks better than the CB Sampler.
Thanks for the breakfast sandwich review, the United Chase credit card onboard food/beverages/Wi-Fi discount is 25% not 20%:
“Whether you are using the United app or PayPal, be sure to save or verify your United MileagePlus® Chase Card as your primary form of payment before traveling. When you pay with your card, you’ll receive 25% back on inflight purchases of food, beverages and Wi-Fi. To pay with miles, make sure your MileagePlus number is added to your reservation.“

For united economy, not bad. Certainly not great
What a fascinating and gripping article.
I thought so too.
Not worried about the calories and carbs here?
Does it come with a free ambulance ride?
it’s one breakfast sandwich.
they’re not serving it to you for life.
jesus.. live people its a sandwich!
I’m glad to see United is serving hot food (for sale) in coach again. To my knowledge they are the only US carrier to do so on domestic flights. It would have been nice to post the menu of lunch/dinner food for sale too. I can’t understand why people constantly criticize United. Prepandemically speaking anyway, they had the largest menu of main cabin food items of any US carrier and I suspect they still do.
I believe Alaska sells hot food in coach as well.
Recently flew F SFO-OGG on 767-300. Breakfast was egg white egg bites. Awful.
Are you telling me I could have ordered this Asiago Bagel Sandwich from Economy and had a better meal?
I would have tried it.
Had to settle for a snack box. Ugh. And by the way, those are garbage now too. No real cheese, no olives. Nasty.
FFS, United, can’t you do better than this? You had two years to figure it out.
It’s an airplane…..not a restaurant……
It’s an awesome sandwich. For those of you who have not tried it don’t knock it.
if this sandwich was served on any airline except united
you would roast them just in the title..
didn’t know united perk offering extra minutes in bathroom could skew minds
You ought to be a food critic! Who the f*** cares. There is so much going on. A sandwich review? Really?
Blah blah blah
The nutrition facts WERE printed on the chia offering and I turned it back in..it was something like 80% of your daily saturated fat when I first thought it was the healthy option!
Yes, sadly airline food is not healthy.
