Great Coffee In Sidi Bou Said, Tunisia

Great Coffee Sidi Bou Said

I already raved about Sidi Bou Said, the Santorini of Tunisia, but want to offer a separate coffee post mostly because the coffee shop I found was so superb that I do not want to it get lost in my thoughts on the city itself.

Best Coffee In Sidi Bou Said, Tunisia

Ask most people about coffee and in Sidi Bou Said and they’ll mentioned Café des Delices, which is the iconic café overlooking the Gulf of Tunis and easily the most picturesque coffee shop in Tunisia.

If you’re into tea (and mint tea in Tunisia is not to be missed), this is your place. There’s also a food menu here. But I went down into the café and must say that (looking at other’s people’s coffee) neither the espresso drinks nor the machine looked like it would create the sort of third-wave coffee I prefer. So I decided to have coffee somewhere else.

I found a place called Bleue which brought a huge smile to my face. It was perfect.

It was a cold but beautiful day and I sat outside, basking in the late afternoon sun. My flat white was strong and the coffee had nodes of chocolate and orange, which was so apropos considering I was siting under a street lined with beautiful orange trees.

I moved inside for my second flat white because I needed to book my Tunisair ticket to Montreal on my phone (that’s a separate crazy story) and wanted to minimize the glare on my screen. I also had a glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice with it.

My bill for two flat whites and one orange juice was 16 Tunisian dinars, which was about $5.45. I pay that for one coffee in Los Angeles!

I had a chat with the barista who beamed with pride when I praised him for his coffee-making skills. He encouraged me to try one of the homemade pastries, but giving up cakes or cookies is the easiest part of my current diet.

But even if you’re not a huge coffee fan, the homemade baked goods really looked excellent.

CONCLUSION

I enjoyed wonderful coffee at Bleue in Sidi Bou Said. What a joy it is to sit down on a beautiful day and enjoy a strong cup of coffee and glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice.
