Denmark is an underrated culinary destination and I was elated to find delicious and authentic Mexican food in Copenhagen at a restaurant called La Neta.

I try “Mexican” food around the world, often for sport, but rarely do I find excellent Mexican food or Tex-Mex outside of North America. But when my friends asked me what I wanted for dinner and I suggested Mexican food, they knew just the place…and it did not disappoint.

La Neta is in the trendy Vestberbro neighborhood in the city center (though I think most of Copenhagen is upscale by now). The place was packed and there are no reservations, but we managed to find table in the back.
I tried a five-taco combo, including:
- bistec (roast beef)
- pastor (marinated pork with pineapple)
- tinga (pulled chicken with chiplote)
- carnitas (slow-roasted pork)
- portobello (with a pork marinade)
155 Danish crowns…about 24 USD
My friends had a quesadilla and a grilled vegetable taco.
The guacamole was excellent and I loved that there was a salsa bar and that every salsa was delicious–it tasted so authentic…like I was in Mexico City. Be warned: some of the salsas are very spicy.
It was a bit too nippy on the last day of March to eat outside, but I’m sure it is quite pleasant during the warmer months.
This was truly a treat…the sort of place I would go to in Los Angeles. I love Copenhagen for many things and now great Mexican food is another reason! La Neta also has a location in the Nørrebro district of Copenhagen on Nørrebrogade 29.

Mexico food would be a better fit in Nicaragua , rather than Iceland , Mongolia , or Congo . Why not leave the Mexican food in Mexico ?

Looks great but 24 bucks where you can get the same in LA for half that. I guess it’s Copenhagen!

Matt, I absolutely love this Pakistani restaurant called “Shezan” on Istedgade near København Central Station! Next time you visit, you have to check it out. København is my favorite city in the world. Requires plane changes from my home in CLT but I visit multiple times per year.
I have strong opinions about Tex-Mex and Mexican food but I have to say… this article is a real delight with all the other child abuse and anti-semitic article comment sections out there at present.
After trying Mexican food in London, I vowed to never try in Europe again.

Hi Matthew. Have you tried the French taco? At least it’s a local specialty.
Despite the name, French tacos have little to do with the taco and are more similar to a burrito or quesadilla, maybe a kind of panini or shawarma.
Always with the typical North African spice. They are very popular in France, especially in the south.
But yes, I agree with you, the Mexican taco is wonderful, although I wouldn’t eat it in Denmark. I prefer a smørrebrød.
First sentence needs a fix, Copenhagen is a fine dining food mecca thanks to Noma (#1 restaurant in the world for many years) and the cluster of restaurants that have come behind it.
I’ve had decent Mexican (in what Americans view as Mexican) in France at a couple of places. But, they don’t seem to getbthe importance of beans as a side. (And, yes French tacos are a panini like concept use flour tortillas as the wrap.
Sadly, the only Mexican you find in Australia and New Zealand comes from people trying to model their version of Chipotle.
Although Mamacitas in Melbourne isn’t bad.
