The Value Proportion Of Bilt Rewards

Bilt Rewards Alliance is a collection of over two million rental homes across the country that let you earn points by paying rent. While that may be the primary benefit, the Bilt Mastercard, which is now open to all, is like a Chase Sapphire Preferred without the annual fee, offering:

  • 3x points on dining
  • 2x points on travel
  • 1x points on rent payments and other purchases

Importantly, Bilt Rewards offers the following airline and hotel transfer partners:

  • Air Canada Aeroplan
  • Air France/KLM FlyingBlue
  • American Airlines AAdvantage
  • Cathay Pacific Asia Miles
  • Emirates Skywards
  • Hawaiian Airlines HawaiianMiles
  • IHG Rewards
  • Turkish Airlines Miles & Smiles
  • United Airlines MileagePlus
  • Virgin Atlantic Flying Club
  • World of Hyatt

American and United under one rooof? Yes, indeed. This is a unique value proportion and offers a degree of flexibility that we don’t see with American Express, Capital One, Chase, or Citi.

New: Bilt Rewards Travel Portal

Today, Bilt Rewards announced a new Bilt Rewards Travel Portal powered by Expedia. While the transfer programs above are really the best value proposition of the program, sometimes you need to be on a certain flight on a certain day. That’s where a travel portal can come into play, giving you even more flexility for your points.

All Bilt Points redeemed through the portal will be worth 1.25 cents towards the cost of travel. That means 10,000 Bilt Points = $125 when redeemed through the portal. You can use a mix of points and cash to cover the cost of a trip and there is no minimum number of points you must redeem.

Bilt Members earn points on any purchases made through the Bilt Travel Portal. This includes purchases paid fully with any credit/debit card as well as purchases paid with points and a card. On points+cash bookings, you will earn points on the portion paid with a card. Meanwhile, Bilt Mastercard cardholders will earn 2X points on all Bilt Travel Portal purchases when paying with their Bilt Mastercard.

Again, this is like the Chase Sapphire Preferred card without the annual fee.

You can use the Bilt Rewards mobile app to book:

One other cool feature: you can book Disney and Universal hotel properties as well through this new portal.

CONCLUSION

If you are flexible with your time and routing, transferring to a partner program will still result in the best value. But Bilt Rewards’ addition of a new travel portal now makes those points even more valuable, allowing for a broad-range of new travel-related redemptions.

Every time I use points and book through a portal/3rd party I get burned. This one isn’t for me.
