If you plan to book a ticket with British Airways but have not joined the AARP, you, amigo, are missing out! British Airways just sweetened an already good deal with higher discounts for economy and premium economy tickets.
I have outlined the BA AARP discount in the past, noting that my wife and I saved $800 on a trip to Germany earlier this year just by spending $16 for one AARP membership. I am still in my twenties — AARP membership is open to all!
Up until last night, when you booked a round-trip intercontinental ticket with British Airways through the AARP portal, you could save $65 off an economy class ticket and $130 off of premium economy ticket (as well as $400 off a business or first class ticket). Now, economy class tickets are $100 off and premium economy is $200 off.
The terms and conditions state this promo will only last through July 31, 2016 (for travel through March 31, 2017), but we’ve seen over and over again that the ARRP promo has been extended and my guess is that it will be at the end of this month too.
In the meantime, we’ve seen some great fares this week from the East Coast to Europe ($1200 business / $500 economy) and adding the AARP discount on top makes BA pricing even more lucrative.
Keep in mind that you can fly American Airlines and Iberia code-share and still apply the discount and that you can still upgrade the ticket as well (premium economy to business is a particularly good value and much smarter than using miles for a pure redemption).
