Delta Will Resume Atlanta Flights Next Year From Burbank

After a multi-year hiatus, Delta will resume flights between Atlanta and Burbank, California next July.

Delta is billing its new route as “media and entertainment” route. Ranjan Goswami, Delta’s Vice President of Los Angeles and West Coast Sales said, “And if LA is the entertainment capital of the world, Burbank is the heart of the action. Our Atlanta-Burbank service connects not only two of the largest regions, but also two of the largest film production markets in the world.”

Here’s the schedule for twice daily flights, set to being on July 8, 2019:

Departs Arrives
ATL at 8:50 a.m. BUR at 10:27 a.m.
ATL at 7:15 p.m. BUR at 8:52 p.m.
BUR at 11:15 a.m. ATL at 6:58 p.m.
BUR at 9:45 p.m. ATL at 5:28 a.m. (next day)

The route will utilize a Boeing 737-700 with the following configuration:

  • 12 seats in First Class
  • 18 in Delta Comfort+
  • 94 in the Main Cabin

All flights will include free seatback in-flight-entertainment, messaging, and power ports. Wi-Fi internet will be available for purchase.

Delta claims a long history at Burbank dating back to Western Airlines.

Delta’s presence at Burbank can be traced back to the 1930s when Western Air Express began operations on April 15, 1931. Western Airlines merged with Delta in 1987, marking more than 30 years of the Delta brand serving customers at Hollywood Burbank Airport.

But I am old enough to remember a period when Delta totally pulled out of Burbank. It returned with Salt Lake City and Atlanta service, then abandoned Atlanta around the time of the Great Recession. It is nice to see the route return with not just once, but twice daily service.

Last time Delta flew between Atlanta and Burbank it utilized a 757-200, which is about the largest aircraft that Burbank can handle. The 737-700 will make landings easier on the relatively short runway at BUR.

CONCLUSION

It is nice to see Delta bolstering its presence in Burbank-Hollywood Airport. Hopefully the new route will stick around a long-term basis.

basically all 3 players will have similar service – 2x daily to the fortress (DEN DFW ATL), and 4-5x daily intra-west (SFO PHX SLC).
