Business Class Breakfast on Singapore Airlines

Matthew Klint Posted onJune 9, 2018November 14, 2023 2 Comments

This week’s Meal of the Week looks back on an excellent breakfast I had on Singapore Airlines flying in business class on an old 777-200 from Singapore to Rangoon.

It was March 2013 and I was tried. I had originally redeemed United miles to fly from Singapore to Dhaka to Bangkok to Rangoon, only 12.5K miles in economy class at the time.

But I had flown LAX-HNL-MAJ-KWA-KSA-PNI-TKK-GUM-NRT-SIN without stopping and had had enough flying. I just wanted to get Burma (to catch another extended trip back…the old RGN currency deal).

Anyway, I subbed out SIN-DAC-BKK-RGN for SIN-RGN, a ~3hr flight which just made more sense. I even treated myself to business class for an extra 5K miles (not available when I initially booked).

Breakfast was served on one tray, but quite hearty. It included a huge cheese omelet with a cooked tomato, mushrooms in cream sauce, a potato patty, and chicken sausage.

Also on the tray: a large warm croissant and bowl of fruit. To drink, I enjoyed a glass of fresh orange juice, still water, and a cappuccino.

a cup of coffee and fruit

Everything was excellent. Cappuccinos on Singapore, even on this old aircraft, are not powdered.

A hearty breakfast is always appreciated and Singapore did not disappoint on this short regional flight.

@Matthew, I think you meant that you were “tired” after that insane routing! 😮 😉

Personally, I enjoy your reviews, old and new, and you’ve been very forthcoming about the dates (I’ll admit that it was a bit confusing when you first started posting the older ones). That dish doesn’t *look* too appetizing (at least the mushrooms and potato patty don’t)… It’s a good thing the meal tasted better than it looked.

Had pretty much the exact same dish 4 years later (last October) on the same route. In the US, we’d be up in arms that an airline is still serving the same food 4 years later!
