Sun Country Baggage Handlers Forget to Load Entire Plane!

It’s not rare that a bag or two is misrouted on any given flight. But how about forgetting to load ANY bags at all? That’s what happened on Sun Country earlier this week.

On Thursday, Sun Country Flight 117 arrived in Las Vegas from Minneapolis with 168 passengers onboard. Small problem: no checked bags made it. Not even one. Somehow the baggage handlers in Minneapolis had forgotten about them. It’s not that they were loaded onto the wrong plane. They simply weren’t loaded. Period.

In typical Sun Country fashion, the airline is offering $50 vouchers to affected passengers and returning their baggage fees. BUT there is a catch. Most customers were forced to return to the airport on Friday to pick up their bags! All bags have now been re-united with their owners.

CONCLUSION

I’d say that’s what happens when you contract labor to the lowest bidder, but sadly for ex-Sun Country workers, most are doing the same job for just a fraction of what they once made. Maybe this is revenge…

An Update on Stranding Passengers in Mexico

I pummeled Sun Country fairly hard earlier this year for stranding passengers in Mexico. After U.S. Senators warned of increased regulation, Sun Country’s CEO now regrets the way his airline acted.

CEO Jude Bricker called stranding passengers a “mistake” and added:

With hindsight, we should have flown a rescue flight to MZT as service options are limited.

SJD has more service options and we felt the best option for those customers was giving them a full roundtrip refund on their Sun Country flight to make alternative arrangements as quickly as possible. Either way, for these routes we should have been reachable and covered their transportation costs if we didn’t fly them home.

Too little, too late…but hopefully Sun Country has learned its lesson.
