Review: Cathay Pacific Lounge Kuala Lumpur (KUL)

The small Cathay Pacific First and Business Class lounge at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) was a nice place to escape the crowds from nearby oneworld Malaysia Airlines lounge, but has one major drawback.

Oneworld emerald and sapphire members as well as those traveling in business or first class on a oneworld carrier from KUL have access to this lounge. It is open daily 6:30 AM until 10:30 PM.

I liked both the design and colors of this lounge. At 9:00 PM, it was also essentially empty, with just four other passengers in it.

Since we are in the age of laptops and tablets (and identify theft on open networks and shared computers), the business centre probably doesn’t need so many computers anymore. Still, I appreciate desks in lounges, since I get so much work done from them (including this review).

As for the food selection, it does not come close to the very nice offering in the Malaysia Airlines lounge, but there’s hot and cold food sufficient for a meal, especially if you are in the mood for noodles. Alcohol and other beverages are self-serve.

But there is a drawback to this lounge…a big one. Cathay Pacific has its own wifi network, and it did not work for me. At all. Not a single page loaded. That was the reason I left the Malaysia Airlines lounge in the first place…but internet was even worse in this lounge. The signal from the Starbucks a few hundred feet away was more powerful than the sorry excuse for internet in this lounge (and airport overall).

CONCLUSION

I appreciated the cleanliness and tranquility of this lounge. Even so, I’ll return to the Malaysia Airlines lounge next time because of the better food and coffee. But if you find yourself squeezed out of that lounge, this is a nice alternative.

How many times do you need to use the word ‘appreciate’? Have you tried to use a thesaurus in order to find a variety of alternative word?
The same applies to your over-use of the word ‘kind’…the ones you think are ‘kind’ are simply doing their job.

Good write up! I was in the Malaysia Airlines domestic golden lounge today (2nd Sept) and noticed no WiFi either – I suspect this is related to the overall system/network issues the airport has been experiencing since 25th August. I’ve been in both the Cathay Pacific lounge and the Malaysia Airliens lounge in the satellite building on previous occasions and found the WiFi working just fine.

I’d kind of appreciate if you could let me know which lounges are accessible with a JAL business class ticket in KUL.

Both MAS lounges and the Cathay lounge.

    Hi ,

I should have left a Asus phone in the cathay lounge this morning as I took the flight to H.K. Pls let me know if you can find the phone. Thank you !
