I used Thanksgiving day to express my thanks to particular people at United for their hard work and dedication throughout the year and I want to use this Christmas Day post to commend United for their annual Fantasy Flight to the North Pole.
For the last 16 years, a handful of United employees have volunteered their time to bring a little holiday cheer to those who could use a little lift, this year to more than 100 foster children and 24 disabled adults from Southern California.
The Fantasy Flight is a mock-trip to the North Pole (usually a decorated gate area) where the passengers board a United flight, travel for about 45 minutes, then land at the "North Pole," this year Gate 76A at LAX where Santa Claus was waiting.
The wonderful part of this story is that the United employees who took part in this–pilots, fight attendants, and ground staff–all volunteered their time to make the event a success. In a time of hostile labor relations and a poor economy, it is so refreshing to read stories like this.
Such selflessness, generosity, and love truly captures the meaning of Christmas.
I wish all of my readers a very merry Christmas and hope that whether you be with family and friends or 35,000 feet above the ground, you will be filled with peace and joy on this day.
