“We Were Hanging Like Bats!” Video Captures Onboard Evacuation Of Crashed Delta Flight

More pictures and video are emerging from the frenzied evacuation of Delta Air Lines flight 4819, a CRJ-900 operated by Endeavor Air that flipped over during landing in Toronto on Monday afternoon.

Wow: Video Captures Evacuation Of Delta 4819 In Toronto

Fascinating but graphic video shows a flight attendant helping passengers evacuate from the aircraft (warning: the language is coarse and unnecessarily gratuitous):

Delta CEO Ed Bastian remarked, “The hearts of the entire global Delta family are with those affected by today’s incident at Toronto-Pearson International Airport.”

Meanwhile, first-hand accounts from passengers are emerging. Pete Koukov, who captured the video above, remarked:

“We hit the ground, and we were sideways, and then we were upside down hanging like bats.

“Just feeling lucky and happy I got to give the person I didn’t know sitting next to me a big hug, that we were OK, and see my friends who are here to pick me up from the airport and give them a big hug.”

Most passengers were able to unbuckle their own seatbelts but some required assistance. Flight attendants were adamant that passengers leave all items onboard and it seems that most (if not all) complied.

We still don’t know exactly what caused the Endeavor Air CRJ-900 to flip over, but what a blessing that everyone was able to get off and that while there were two passengers who were critically injured, no deaths are expected from this crash.

As Koukov said, “Being alive feels pretty cool today.”

Indeed.

Amazing. Terrific emergency responders, fascinating aircraft design, and diligent crew turned around a dreadful accident. Great job everyone. And this is Toronto’s second time pulling this off. Life is good

If I had survived that I’d be in shock and dropping lots of F bombs too. Coming out of that crash unscathed is incredibly lucky. Incredible.

We are at a sad place in society where because of stupid snozwflakes you have to put a warning because someone says the F word after surviving a plane crash. Not a huge trump fan but sure am glad he is getting rid of woke, dei, bs and hopefully all the snowflakes will move somewhere else.

I’ve never understood why some people need to use foul language to express themselves. It is undignified and unnecessary. It is always gratuitous.

          Matthew –

I like to consider myself articulate in many different settings, at my kids’ school, in front of a business audience of 1500, at home watching a football game, etc. I speak three languages and I’m also the holder of three degrees (one undergrad and two graduate) from universities in the top 20 universities in the world as determined by the Times of London rankings.

I say this not to brag, but to give appropriate context when I say that notwithstanding a wide and deep familiarity with the English language, if I staggered out of an inverted aircraft that was on fire, I would absolutely be dropping f-bombs left and right as my verbiage of choice.

I know this because I once had to don a life vest and brace for impact after an engine failure with physical damage on take-off. The landing turned out to be perfectly normal, but during the taxi-in, the shock of the experience triggered that emotional language in me.

While such language is undoubtedly undignified and unnecessary, so too is dangling upside down in your just-crashed aircraft and being yelled at by a flight attendant to get out before you burn to death. Under the circumstances, his language wasn’t gratuitous by the MW definition: “not called for by the circumstances : not necessary, appropriate, or justified.”

That guy is worthy of your grace and forgiveness. He just survived a plane crash.

          Give him an f-ing break.

Greg, appreciate your comment! Don’t mistake my disdain for cursing with my disdain for the survivor who expressed, very rawly but genuinely, his reaction to an experience I can only begin to imagine. I’ve had very difficult experiences over the years with friends who curse and for very personal reasons (yes, religious reasons, but more personal than religious) I hate cursing with a passion. I insist it is gratuitous. But I also realize I am very much in the minority with this viewpoint and I make every effort not to feel superior to anyone who curses…or feel superior to anyone for any reason.

It’s usually the religious that are offended by “bad words”. Not the “woke libs”

Everyone is offended. Just depends on which bad words.

Unnecessarily gratuitous? You get into a plane crash first and as soon as you are emerging let’s record your thoughts and then we can talk about being unnecessarily gratuitous.

The footage of the final approach and hard landing that is now circulating is, well, very disturbing. Fast and high and wildly hard. It’s a wonder the fuselage held together in one piece.

Looking at the whole picture why have there been several crashes within the past three months ? Is todays pilot training and certification less rigorous?

I can’t answer that question, but it looks like pilot error in YYZ based on the two videos that have emerged…a landing that was far too fast. Yet we must hold off and let investigaotrs do their job…I’m seeing a video only from one angle.

@D3King … Possibly the Ease of auto controls , plus Inexperience of flying weather events without auto controls .

Too many automated systems , and not enough B-24 or P-38 experience .

Not enough women have crashed planes so this is a step in the right direction of equality. The pilot flying the plane was a woman.

The Canadians are pretty incompetent. The plane that crashed was Canadian designed and built. It crashed in Canada. Canadians are bitter people, being so jealous of Americans but won’t admit it. They frequently empty out Costco in Bellingham, WA (near Vancouver) and Buffalo, NY. That is because Canadians like to rip each other off with high prices. They boo at the US National Anthem but the reverse is not true.

Just a thought for those of you who would insist on taking your carryon while evacuating (if it is anything bigger than a purse and was already on your lap or on the floor in front of you):
    – You WILL get the F-bomb from me, and
    – You WILL likely get a punch in the head (ok maybe just figuratively)

Having evacuated from more than one plane (fire, collapsed nose gear, potential fire). People insisting on trying to get their roll aboard from the overhead and take it with them DID block aisles and dramatically slow the evacuation.

TIME COUNTS! your stuff is replaceable. there are NO acceptable excuses!
