I flew Delta One from New York to Los Angeles and got to check out the Delta One Lounge at JFK prior to my flight…wow, it was outstanding and outshines its peers in many ways.
Delta One Lounge JFK: An Outstanding New Premium Lounge That Sets The Standard In The USA
Delta is opening several new premium lounges it brands as “Delta One” Lounges that are intended for passengers flying its flagship business class product, which operates internationally and on some coast-to-coast domestic routes.
I arrived at the lounge at just after 6:00 am and it was mostly empty at the time…and beautiful. It’s 39,000 square feet and includes a full-service brasserie, a market (walk-up food service), a beautiful terrace and bar, a wellness area, and shower suites.
Take a look:
You know me and coffee…Delta offers excellent coffee (not Starbucks) from Red Phoenix Coffee Roasters in the lounge as well and I enjoyed a hearty and delicious breakfast, including an omelet made to order.
I love the terrace…such a nice feature of the lounge and the shower suites and seating areas are all beautiful.
My one gripe: the restaurant is only open from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm. Oh, there was more than enough to eat in the market, but the brasserie is such a beautiful area it is a shame it is not put to use throughout the day.
I said this lounge outshines its peers and while I appreciate that the United Polaris Lounge in Newark offers a la carte dining throughout the day, not just in the afternoon and evening, I loved the food and coffee in the Delta lounge…it’s an elevated experience.
I’ll publish a full review in the days ahead. But well done, Delta: this is such a big value-add to the business class experience.
While I understand Delta’s approach to have these lounges where they have competition, I think it is really bad that they won’t offer these in their hubs. I just flew from MSP to ATL and had an international connection from there on Delta One and ended up spending time at a crowded Amex Centurion lounge that was less crowded than the regular Delta lounge. No love for customers flying Delta One from their hubs is really bad.
They’re building one in SLC currently
Well, I would not consider SLC a major Delta hub. I am talking about ATL, MSP and DTW. Those are the real Delta hubs where they have almost no competition and I don’t think they have plans to build Delta One lounges.
They have confirmed plans, but no concrete timeline for ATL.
One could surmise that this airport will be the last on the list for a D1 lounge considering the amount of Diamonds just happy to give Eddy money in ATL while they sit on a crowded Concourse B SkyClub with paper plates, paper utensils and plastic cups, hoping that 53 pax cancel their plans as said Diamond is 54/96 on the upgrade list, 1 seat remaining for F
When was the last time you visited SLC? It’s a fortress Delta hub in every sense.
I’m sure they want one in ATL, but there is no vacant space for one. They’d have to convert a Skyclub or wait for another lounge tenant to vacate.
JFK was able to squeeze one into terminal 4 due to the recent expansion and modernization of terminal 4. I believe there are some expansion projects in the pipeline at ATL, so maybe we’ll see a D1 lounge there after all.
@Santastico … Anticipating traffic , they are building one in Greenland .
For an airline that considers themselves “premium”… I agree it’s pretty sad… When UA and AA have included first class lounges for many years now, of which have both been generally adequate. DL isn’t inventing anything new here.
So chintzy to charge for premium drinks. Gratis at Polaris.
@Greg … +1 .
I’ll have a double Beefeater and fever tree light tonic , and it ought to be “on the house” .
And for a chaser , I’ll have a French Champagne , and it ought to also be “on the house” .
It is a space available situation at ATL – absent a new space becoming available maybe it would make sense for Delta to convert the existing E lounge to a Delta One when the new E lounge opens up. The issue is that Delta needs about 100% more regular SkyClub space at the airport, and all of the SkyClubs in the airport also need to be renovated to the current standard.
Matt – nice boots, where are they from?
Thanks. Bought them in Germany. I’m not home, but will check the brand when I get home.
Please do. I second the request!
My wife and I flew through jfk on our way to Europe and had a few pleasant hours in the delta one lounge. We are loyal united customers (my wife is a million miler on United) and we love the Polaris lounges we’ve visited (ord, lax, ewr) but the delta one was every bit as good as Polaris.
Nice lounge. The food offerings have really improved in the past 3 months or so.
Regarding all the ATL chatter, the former LH Lounge in Atlanta still sits empty. I’m surprised nothing has ever moved in to it.
In a market call to analysts Delta said the new Atlanta Delta One Lounge is 3 years away. They have to build an addition on to the airport.
Oooof. That “omelette” is wholly unappetizing. What’s supposed to be a delicate, pale yellow cushion of egg invariably ends up as burnt scrambled eggs with some “fixins” thrown in.
I agree – the curse of the Ameican omelet. But I still liked it.
I’m not exactly a photography enthusiast, but the quality of these images is stunning. Did you take them with a regular mobile phone?
Yes, just my iPhone.
Visited the D1 lounge in LAX last November. I have to agree, best lounge in the US. I enjoy it more than the Qantas F lounge at TBIT.
It’s the most premium lounge in the NYC area
makes UA a bit uncompetitive given they do not allow access to Polaris lounges for Longhaul HI and premium transcons
Really enjoyed it when I visited in December. Was flying Virgin Upper but decided I had to have a look when it was right next to the (empty at the time) security channel. The food I had was tasty, and I checked out a few of the areas. Liked that you could also find some quiet spots. The staff were super friendly and really elevated the experience. Even managed to get a quick neck and shoulder massage, despite the waiting list. Went to the Virgin Clubhouse to wait for my flight, but it made the service there seem unfriendly and uninterested in comparison, not to mind it all just getting a bit tired. Easy fixes there, if they chose it. Like just getting staff to be somewhat engaged!
Interesting. It’s incredibly rare to see the term outstanding – at least in a good way – and Delta in the same sentence these days unless you’re you-know-who.
