Delta Air Lines is offering a limited-time SkyMiles award sale to one of my favorite destinations in Europe…and it’s a good one.
Delta SkyMiles Sale To Malta Is A Great Excuse To Visit One Of Europe’s Best Islands
For a limited time, Delta is discounting award travel to Malta for peak summer travel, with tickets available through April 17 for travel between June and August. As a reminder, Delta will launch three weekly flights between New York (JFK) and Malta (MLA) starting June 7, 2026 with a Boeing 767-300. The flights will operate on the following schedule:
- DL148 New York – Malta dep 5:00 pm arri 8:20 am+1
- DL149 Malta – New York dep 10:20 am arr 2:50 pm
Summer award space to Europe is rarely cheap when booking so far out (suggesting weak advance bookings on this new Delta route). But the pricing here is actually quite compelling in all cabins of service.
Delta SkyMiles Sale To Malta
From New York (JFK), round-trip award pricing starts at:
- 30,000 miles in Basic Economy (60% off)
- 56,000 miles in Main Cabin (45% off)
- 88,000 miles in Comfort+ (25% off)
- 154,000 miles in Delta Premium Select (20% off)
- 196,000 miles in Delta One (51% off)
From the rest of the United States, pricing starts at:
- 46,000 miles in Basic Economy (40% off)
- 77,000 miles in Main Cabin (25% off)
- 88,000 miles in Comfort+ (25% off)
- 155,000 miles in Delta Premium Select (20% off)
- 280,000 miles in Delta One (30% off)
You can view available flights and pricing here.
I don’t consider SkyMiles a particularly valuable currency for US-based travelers, but discounts of this magnitude, including in Delta One, are tempting. If you’ve been sitting on a stash of SkyMiles, this is one of the better uses I’ve seen in awhile for a flight that starts or ends in the USA.
Malta Is One Of Europe’s Most Underrated Destinations
And the destination itself is really a treasure, even if you also use it as a springboard to other parts of Europe.
I’ve written extensively about my time in Malta (see here), and it remains one of my favorite places in Europe.
Malta offers a unique mix of history, culture, and natural beauty that you simply don’t find elsewhere on the continent. The capital city of Valletta is stunning and filled with centuries of history. The island’s architecture reflects its layered past, from the Knights of St. John to British colonial rule.
English is widely spoken, the food is excellent, and getting around is simple. It’s also comparatively cheap compared to even Italy. And unlike many packed Mediterranean hotspots in peak summer, Malta still manages to feel a bit off the beaten path.
Check out more posts on my journey to Malta here. I recommend the Hyatt Regency Malta…a great points hotel.

CONCLUSION
Delta’s SkyMiles sale to Malta is worth a look, particularly for summer travel when award pricing is historically at its worst. Even more importantly, Malta itself is absolutely worth the trip. If you’ve never been, this is a great excuse to go.

I like Malta a lot and am going back later this year but with these “sale” prices of 56,000 for coach and almost 200,000 in business – one way – you and I have a wildly different idea of what constitutes a compelling bargain.
No, that 196K is r/t in Delta One.
Apologies. I stand corrected.
If you ignore the awful DeltaOne hard product on the 767-300 it’s not a bad deal. I’d consider it w/ an A330-neo or A350-900 (and the credit card discount)
Malta is definitely a Mediterranean classic that deserves more than one visit!
Let’s add that, as of April 9, 2026, DL has 37 B767-300 jets in its fleet with an average age of 29.3 years.
196,000 isn’t bad for D1.
@AlanZ — Nice to have a nonstop JFK-MLA, finally!
@ Matthew — Yeah, but the aircraft is a POS.
Not my favorite – that’s for sure, but for D1 lounge access in JFK and a nonstop to Malta, not bad at all.
We recently booked ATL-ICN nonstop, roundtrip on DL1 for 225,200 miles roundtrip on the A350-900. Now THAT’S a good deal. This offer for Malta is good only if you live in NYC and value a nonstop flight to Malta. These 763s really are horrible. The DL1 lounge access at JFK is totally overrated. Once you climb over the homeless encampment, I mean AmEX Centurion lounge line, in T5 to reach the DL1 lounge, you are then crammed into a glorified SkyClub with a bunch of New Yorkers. Not even worth arriving early for.
That is an excellent deal to ICN, though I do quite like the D1 lounge at JFK.
I’ve become spoiled by the FTL and such. Now things like Polaris and D1 seem pedestrian.
Remember that DL will operate the first-ever scheduled nonstop service between JFK and MLA. The average flight time is approximately 9 hours and 15 minutes.
We are planning a September trip to Malta. I’ll check out our Delta balances.
July and August are the hottest months in this appealing island, with humidity often exceeding 60%, making it feel very sticky. For slightly lower temperatures but still swimming-friendly weather, it is recommended to try September or October.
Your headline makes it sound like Delta sold their FFP to a european country! c.f. crash blossoms
Malta is bloody hot. In the full heat of summer? You couldn’t pay me enough to go there (and I like the place). 300K Skypesos in biz from everywhere other than NYC? You’re outta your mind.
