Review: Delta Sky Club Detroit (DTW – C Concourse)

Matthew Klint Posted onMarch 18, 2022March 18, 2022 9 Comments

Before my Delta Air Lines flight to Amsterdam, I had time to visit all five Sky Club locations in Detroit’s beautiful McNamara Terminal. This review highlights the C Concourse Club.

Delta Sky Club Detroit (DTW) C Concourse Review

This was a very crowded lounge and I only stayed for a few minutes. Part of it was timing (ahead of the evening bank of departures across the USA and to Europe) and part of it was the fact that the A Concourse has four clubs and the C Concourse, which is fairly large, only has one.

Location + Access + Hours

This Sky Club is located in Concourse C on the gate level near the entrance to the concourse. It is open daily from 6:00AM to 9:00PM. From the A Concourse you can reach the lounge via an underground concourse with lit walls that change color.

This lounge is available to:

  • Delta Sky Club members (along with same-day boarding pass for Delta or a partner)
    • Lifetime members can access the club regardless of the airline they are traveling on
    • Two guests or immediate family (including all children under age 21) are permitted
  • Delta One or SkyTeam premium cabin passengers
    • Access only when traveling on a branded “Delta One’ (versus first class) domestically
    • Access when connecting to/from a same day international Delta One flight
    • No guests permitted
  • SkyTeam Elite Plus members traveling on an international ticket in any cabin of service
    • Includes Canada, Mexico
    • Excludes Caribbean, Guam, Palau, Saipan
    • One guest permitted
  • Select credit card holders
    • Delta SkyMiles Reserve from American Express
      • guests are $39 each
    • American Express Platinum / Centurion
      • guests are $39 each
    • Delta SkyMiles Diners Club card
      • two guests permitted
    • Delta SkyMiles TRUST CLUB Platinum/Gold Visa card
      • two guests permitted
  • Virgin Australia Club or Velocity Gold members (through June 12, 2022)
    • One guest permitted
  • WestJet Business Class passengers
    • No guests permitted
  • WestJet Rewards Gold and Platinum members
    • Access only when traveling on a transborder flight
    • One guest permitted

Seating

This is a large lounge with many nooks and crannies providing seating. A main L-shaped seating area stretches around two sides of the lounge offering plenty of seats–most of which were occupied.

The lounge also has some interesting pieces of artwork (not my style, but it at least gave the otherwise blasé lounge some character).

And a magazine rack – what a blast from the past!

Hand sanitizing stations were located all over the lounge:

Printing

Wireless printing as well as self-serve copying and scanning were available.

Food + Drink

Beverage stations with coffee and water are located around the lounge, but the main eating area was located on the west side of the lounge, with a number of hot and cold items.

The afternoon selection included:

  • salads
    • Waldorf chicken
    • apple, cranberry, walnut, kale
    • potato
    • buffalo bleu cheese pasta
  • sandwiches
    • turkey swiss
    • ham cheddar
  • hummus with veggies
  • charcuterie board
  • chicken makhani
  • roasted fingerling potatoes
  • soup
    • chicken and dumpling
  • Miss Vickies potato chips
  • Rice Krispie Treats
  • apple cobbler
  • brownies
  • cookies
  • bannans

Complimentary drinks included a number of wines, bottom-end spirits, and Veuve duVernay sparkling wine (about $12/bottle retail). Soft drinks are self-serve.

As mentioned, coffee and water stations were positioned in other points of the lounge.

Restrooms + Showers

Restrooms are located inside the lounge. No showers in this lounge.

CONCLUSION

This was a crowded lounge, despite its large size. While I didn’t have any trouble finding a seat, I prefer the quieter lounges at the far ends of the A Gates or the beautiful new Sky Club at A43.

The best takeaway in this is that you actually visited all five clubs in DTW. That’s gotta be a record of some sort. Did you actually sit down in any? You rock, Matthew.

Today I’ll review the final one, A43, which was my favorite.

So all have basically the same food & drink. Any have better wifi or any one of these particularly stand out? Have a long layover at DTW in a couple of weeks so these are timely & super helpful!

Wi-Fi worked in all lounges – I did not do speed tests. I do prefer the A43 lounge.

I’m here twice a week. As I’ve said in your other reviews, Detroit’s main terminal, used by Delta, is arguably the most underrated airport in the United States. It’s also 20 years old this year, which is amazing because it doesn’t show its age.

This Sky Club, like all but one other in Detroit, are legacy Northwest lounges. As a result, the bar was self-serve until the pandemic. All the alcohol in this lounge is free – there’s no premium option.

The food can be very iffy, which means the main DTW lounge is overcrowded because people who are hungry skip the satellite lounges for the more extensive food offerings in the main one.

Is the A43 lounge your favorite as well as Matthew’s?

No. While the A43 Sky Club is new and has a premium food, the food is the same as the main lounge across the concourse from it. Also, the seating is small; maybe 80 people. Most of the tables are too low to eat or do work on a computer. A43 is supposed to become a Delta One business-class and 360 lounge when Delta officially announces that concept.

While not surprising, it is sad to see the growing list of carriers retiring this superjumbo jet. On Malaysia Airlines, I flew the #A380 once from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to London (LHR) and had the entire first class cabin to myself (full review on the blog). It was a beautiful flight that I will always remember.
