Now through November 18th you can enjoy discounted membership to US Airways Club lounges, no initiation fee, and 3,000 elite status miles just for joining.
Simply enter promotion code CLB30 and your membership price will drop to $325 ($450/year is the usual rate for those without US Airways elite status) and the initiation fee will drop from $50 to $0. The card is good for entrance into all United Clubs as well, making this a much better deal (and a better deal even without the sale) than United’s $475 annual fee non-elites plus initiation fee for new members. US Club membership will also give you access to Priority Club and American Express Platinum lounges for a fee.
Is this worthwhile? Yes.
Will I be buying it for myself? No.
British Midland’s days may be numbered as a Star Alliance member carrier, but it is still relatively easy to qualify for Star Gold status on them. Even easier is racking up 20,000 elite miles for Star Gold status on Aegean Airlines or on Asiana, where 40,000 elite miles gives you Star Gold status for two years. Non Continental/United/US Airways Star Gold members always have access to Star Gold lounges when traveling on a Star Alliance flight, so a small investment in time (for mileage running) may turn out cheaper than buying the lounge membership when you factor in value of the miles you will earn.
Airline clubs are not great in the United States, but they certainly are far better places to wait out your flight than in a busy gate area or a grimy airport restaurant. Wi-fi, clean bathrooms, and light snacks are better than nothing…
