Captain Tells Shirtless Passenger, “You’re Only Making Things Worse For Yourself!”

An EasyJet flight traveling from Turkey to the UK was forced to divert in Greece after at least one young man could not control his alcohol intake. His behavior became so bad, including removing his shirt and fighting with another passenger, that the captain even warned him to sit down and shut up.

Drunk Man Rips Off Shirt, Challenges Other Passenger On EasyJet Flight, Forcing Desperate Plea From Captain

An unnamed man can be seen standing in the passenger cabin of an EasyJet A320 jet with his shirt off as other passengers yell at him for his “bullying” behavior onboard. The video does not show how the trouble started, but the young man appears intoxicated. Another passenger in a white puffer vest (foolishly) engages him and the two fight until they are separated by a flight attendant.

His poor behavior on a flight from Antalya (AYT) to London (LGW) last month prompted the captain to declare an emergency and divert the flight to Athens (ATH). Passengers erupted in anger when informed of the diversion, with some standing up to challenge the young man (also not helpful…).

Video shows a flight attendant breaking up two passengers while the captain can be heard on the PA system warning everyone to sit down and lamenting, “To the people who are fighting, the police are waiting for us at the gate. You are only making things worse for yourself. Please sit down.”

Other passengers angrily condemned the young man for delaying their journey home, using words that I will not repeat but you can see in the video below.

Flying back to Gatwick from Antalya, Plane gets diverted to Athens because of the topless guy. The other guy gets involved and ends up getting booted off as well

The video was posted with the warning, “Flying back to Gatwick from Antalya, plane gets diverted to Athens because of the topless guy. The other guy gets involved and ends up getting booted off as well. Big shout out to the flight attendants, who did amazing.”

Yes, another reminder that alcohol and flying can be a very dangerous mix…

“An EasyJet flight traveling from Turkey to the UK”. I stopped reading there as I could already predict the rest of the story.

Maybe unaccompanied young men should be banned from flights or just not served alcohol.

British people drink non stop before and during flights. I worked in the UK for 4 years and could never understand their behavior towards alcohol. It is not about appreciating the drink but about getting as drunk as possible to the point they lose control of themselves. I have seen them guzzling beer at airpot lounges at 4am for breakfast and continuing non stop during flights. Never seen shirtless but many walking bare foot to the the filthy airplane bathroom. They couldn’t care less.

Lol, saw this UK guy who changed into his PJ’s on Qatar J in the seat (stripped). Can’t speak bad about my home country, but our alcohol intake does need some work.

@Apple: I love visiting the UK. London is one of my favorite cities in the world but you guys have a big problem with alchool. What I find interesting is that people don’t seem to drink because they like the taste, they simply guzzle glass after glass after glass non stop. And yes, once the alcohol hits, they do things that kept me scratching my head. Worst are the women. You kind of expect men to misbehave but I have seen women doing things that I can’t unsee. LOL!

I always find the drunk dude fighting stories a helpful reminder to pick up the thanksgiving dinner wine.

Seriously though, I often wonder how these people behave at home.

Do you really believe there were no underlying issues with personality disorders, mental illness, emotional abuse and multiple street drug use?

This incident and others makes me wonder why companies don’t have have full day classes on conflict de-escalation techniques and tactics. Can FA’s weigh in if such training is becoming more commonplace?

Alcohol and drug induced rages are sometimes impossible to mitigate, but many of them might be via offering some non-alcoholic beverage or snack which restores their metabolism. Connect with them. Show empathy. Play good cop.

Then after they land, the airline can quietly notify them they were misbehaving and face a ban.

Everyone knows the LAST thing that calms an upset person is to tell them to “STOP BEING UPSET!” or “CALM DOWN!” Threats have a similar effect. One time a pushy salesman had the nerve to tell me “If you don’t calm down I’ll call the police” and I stood up and lost it and told him off. I marveled at how the guy succeeded as a salesman.
