Escaping the Cold – Back to California

Matthew Klint Posted onJanuary 23, 2013December 9, 2016 4 Comments

The last couple days have been cold, and I mean cold. As a California native who has spent a handful of winters on the East Coast (and Germany), I honestly cannot recall weather this cold before. It was 13ºF when I walked home from the gym last night and the high barely breached 20º today. Oh, to be sure I’ve been in much colder weather before, but I’ve never lived in such cold weather. There was only one solution: escape to California.

Actually, this trip has been planned for about a week, but it comes at a most opportune time. Call me a big sissy, but when it gets below freezing, I go into hibernation mode. I did not emerge from my bedroom until 6pm yesterday and waking up in the cold is even more difficult for me, who has sadly not been a morning person for at least the last decade. My appointment at 8:30a this morning? Slept right through it—even the alarm couldn’t wake me up. And I went to bed at a decent time last night…

So to be more productive (yes, that’s it), I am flying to Los Angeles tonight. United again, this time from Newark to Los Angeles after a train ride up to Liberty International from Philadelphia on Amtrak. The fare was reasonable and my upgrade has cleared (though it would never have cleared without a confirmed upgrade instrument) so I am looking forward to a hot dinner and more importantly, the hot 80º weather of Southern California.

See you on the other coast!

I was home in San Diego last weekend, it was great! Went surfing, laid on the beach! Anything is better than the 14 degrees it is here in NYC!
