If you’ve been following my saga with Ethiopian Airlines, you’ll know that I have been fighting to get Ethiopian to honor a $763 r/t business class ticket between Bangkok and Toronto.
After letting my booking sit for many weeks, Ethiopian promptly cancelled it without notice. Money was never refunded, though I did receive a note back advising me to either travel in economy class, apply the $763 toward a new ticket, or accept a refund. Earlier this week I sent my response and today I received a response back.
Not surprisingly, the note is brief, does not address the points I raised, and again only offers three unsatisfactory choices:
Dear Matthew,
Greetings and thank you for contacting us!
Sorry for the inconvenience again and that is the only option we can offer. Please let us know your choice among those three options.
We are looking forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Zerihun Tesfaye
Several peopled were CCed, so perhaps my note was discussed.
A Glimmer of Hope?
Interestingly, on Flyertalk a passenger shares the following–
With the information that other travellers have been denied entry to the flight in Bangkok I got in touch with the Oslo office of Ethiopian Airlines today, with the intention of canceling my flight from BKK- YYZ in August.
Talking to their representative in person I was informed that they knew about the situation. And that while the previous error fare from Oslo never had an issue about travellers being denied flying on a Cloud 9/buisniss/ D fare status, the flights booked from Singapore/Bangkok to Vancouver had.
According to the representative the airline had now decided to accept the tickets and when he checked in his system my flight had an OK status.
To be sure he asked for the relevant information and would confirm the status with bookings centrally, I presume in Addis Abbeba and get back to me by e-mail.
I will update the information here as soon as I hear back from Ethiopian Airlines in Oslo.
That was on 04/28 and he provided an update yesterday stating that the Norwegian Sales Office still has received no word from company headquarters concerning whether these tickets will be honored.
I will shortly draft a response and see if the next round of emails makes progress or is simply another fool’s errand.
Honestly just let it go , Youre coming across as cheap and arrogant
I have to agree with Mary here you win some and lose some with these mistake fares, and on this occasion you lost. Stop going on about it, hoping that the airline will change its mind because you keep blogging about it, Either accept the economy offer or ask for a refund.
