A kind gesture from a Frontier Airlines flight attendant helped to make a stressful flight better for everyone onboard. But especially for one mother.
Jamie Applegate Hunter was on a Frontier flight from Tyler, Texas (TYR) to Denver (DEN). With in her tow was her infant daughter. And unfortunately for Applegate Hunter (and the rest of the plane), her daughter was not having a good travel day…instead she was screaming. And she wouldn’t stop.
But rather than berating her for not keeping her child quiet, one flight attendant offered a helping hand. Taking the baby, Joel O Paris Castro walked her through the cabin and successfully quieted her down.
Recounting the incident on her Facebook page, Applegate Hunter heaped great praise on the flight attendant.
Sharing the same images on his Facebook page, Castro wrote, “Days like this make being a flight attendant the most rewarding job ever. She was a beauty hahahah. She just wanted to explore the plane!” He later told Fox News:
When it came to the little girl, she looked like she just wanted to explore for a little while, and the mom looked like she could’ve used a well-deserved break, so I happily took the little girl from her hands and rocked her for a little while. I’ve always thought it takes a village to raise children…And besides, I bet my mother could’ve used a couple of breaks when I was growing up.
Of course Frontier was happy to get on the good publicity, adding:
Frontier is known for being family-friendly airline and we love that our team goes above and beyond to ensure everyone has an enjoyable flight.
Kudos to Castro.
CONCLUSION
I realize that not every airline has the resources for a dedicated nanny onboard, like on Etihad longhaul flights. Still, Castro demonstrates how much passengers appreciate a flight attendant who offers assistance. While not everyone will accept it and while it does go beyond the scope of prescribed flight attendant duties, what a great reminder that flight attendants can greatly help when babies will not stop crying.

They look harmless enough , but the last time I helped someone with a baby ( woman alone, 2 bags plus baby) , I got sick for 3 days via some baby specific virus ( parvo or nova or….). My doctor giggled about it.
Both of today’s stories highlight how a bit of compassion for the very young and the very old goes a long way towards improving society. The very sick and very poor should also be included.
My experience with Frontier Airlines was awesome. Last time when I was travelling to Europe and Frontier Airlines staff helped women having a baby of 4 months.
