Free Hilton HHonors Gold Status

Matthew KlintPosted onDecember 26, 20119 Comments

As reported by Gary, Hilton HHonors is giving away instant free Gold status through 31 May 2013 to Visa Infinite cardholders.

Benefits of Hilton Gold status include:

  • Complimentary room upgrades
  • Executive Lounge access and/or daily continental breakfast for two
  • A 25% bonus on all HHonors base points
  • Discounts on multi-night award stays

But what if you don’t have a Visa Infinite card?

Well, the way Hilton verifies if you are a Visa Infitine cardholder is by asking you to input the first six digits of your card. Turns out everyone has the same first six digits and those digits are widely available.

Hilton has given away Gold status like candy in the past, so it does not surprise me they make it so easy for people to gain complimenetary gold status through this offer. With that in mind, it is up to you whether you see an ethical dilemma in taking advantage of this offer without actually holding the card.

The offer website is a bit buggy–it appears that you need to avoid using Firefox to sign up for the offer. Chrome, Safari, and Internet Explorer should be okay.

Even if I take advantage of this offer, my hotel preference will remain Hyatt, but enjoying free internet and free breakfast is tempting…

I just entered as a Diamond and was told this: “Book a hotel today and stay 4 times by
by 31 May 2012 to to receive 40,000 HHonors points. “

@Damian: Yeah, I didn’t mention that part of the offer–but that is another component. It appears that those four stays, however, must be paid for with your Visa Infinite card.

Also note from the promotion’s FAQ:
“This offer is open to selected Visa Infinite cardholders residing within Asia Pacific, Central Europe, Middle East and Africa and who are enrolled in Hilton HHonors and register for the promotion.”

And I don’t believe they’re actually giving current Gold/Diamond members 5000 points either, as they did back over the summer with the US Visa promotion.
