Iberia Passenger Finds “Free Palestine” Message On Kosher Meal

a close up of a sign

An Argentine Jewish passenger on Iberia flight IB102 from Buenos Aires (EZE) to Madrid (MAD) was shocked to discover “Free Palestine” handwritten on the packaging of his kosher meal. Several other kosher meals were also marked with “FP.” Iberia has opened an investigation into the source of the messaging.

Kosher Meals Handed Out On Iberia Flight Found Labeled “Free Palestine”

On August 4, 2025, after requesting kosher meals onboard flight IB102, passenger Salvador Auday received his tray with the words “Free Palestine” written in black ink. Other meals bore only the initials “FP,” apparently written with the same pen. The flight was bound for Madrid, with some passengers continuing to Israel.

Auday told Argentinian Jewish outlet Vis á Vis that he immediately informed the head flight attendant, who apologized, took photographs, and documented the incident. Auday believes the message was written before the meal reached the aircraft, suggesting it occurred at the catering facility rather than onboard.

“I reported the incident to the head flight attendant, who took down the complaint, took photos, etc. They tried to apologize in every possible way. Apparently, it wasn’t any of the crew members, so if it came from outside, I’d imagine that Iberia will conduct an internal investigation of its suppliers and procedures. That’s precisely why I reported it, so that it doesn’t get forgotten.”

Argentina’s main Jewish umbrella group, the Delegation of Argentine Jewish Associations (DAIA), condemned the incident as a “serious act of antisemitism” and called on Iberia to take swift disciplinary action and ensure the safety and dignity of Jewish travelers.

Iberia issued a brief statement saying the captain and crew responded professionally, documented the complaint, and assisted the affected passengers. The airline confirmed that a full internal investigation is underway in collaboration with its catering provider. “We categorically reject any form of discrimination, incitement to hatred, or conduct that undermines the dignity of individuals,” Iberia stated.

Link To Vueling Incident?

Kosher meals are typically double-sealed for religious certification, meaning any writing on the exterior packaging would likely occur at the catering stage, not in-flight. With Israel being pummeled in the news over its “starvation” of Gaza, it’s not surprising that a conscientious worker felt convicted to take action in that subtle way…but that does not make it any less professional. More than a political statement, it was a sign of intimidation, made to frighten the passengers who ordered those special meals.

This comes on the heels of another controversy involving IAG-owned airline Vueling, which removed a group of Jewish teens from a flight earlier this year under contentious circumstances. While Iberia acted promptly in this case, incidents like these continue to erode trust.

CONCLUSION

Whether written out of malice or as a prank, there is no place for political messages on meals meant for passengers who simply want to eat in peace. Iberia’s swift action is appreciated, but this should never have happened in the first place, regardless of your thoughts on Israel’s war in Gaza.

“news over its “starvation” of Gaza”

No need to use quotation marks. Or just call it a famine.

I agree that blockading food , leading to starvation , is unforgivable . It is a crime .

At the same time , massacring Israeli young people on October 7 , is also a crime .

‘Tit-for-tat’ does not make a pleasant neighborhood . ‘Hatfields and McCoys’ would be an unpleasant neighborhood .

Animals know to leave an area when no food is available, which shows these people aren’t as smart as animals.

Poor life decisions, including breeding these conditions has consequences.

But thanks for showing how hateful you truly are. I’m sure not every homo is as angry and miserable as you, but if you were their overall representative it’s no wonder they don’t like them in Wyoming.

Except there is a blockade on Gaza and Israel does not allow free movement of Gazans across its borders. Would you like to accept thousands of Gazan refugees in the United States?

Hamas massacred Israeli young people at a concert on October 7 , and the “enlightened” France then calls for a Palestinian state .

Why does not “enlightened” France hold the evil Hamas accountable ?

Similarly , “socialism” has destroyed many economies and many livelihoods , and yet the “enlightened” professors don’t hold stupid “socialism” accountable ?

Revengeful behaviour leads to crimes against innocent people . Not “glossing over that” , especially the current ‘starvation – food blockade’ element , which is a crime .

The Middle-East is replete with these sorts of events , as has been Asia and Europe and the New World . Humanity has not been humane .

Israel has a right to defend herself against terrorists. Israel is a close ally to the U.S. anti semitism against Jews is not tolerated here. We do not tolerate global antifada and it is not ok to shout “gas the Jews”. Who is paying you ?

Israel attacked the USS Liberty, killing Americans. Since that is bad, shouldn’t the US retaliated by starving Israelis and flattening Tel Aviv such that no house is undamaged? Bomb every hospital in Israel?

Israel likes to retaliate 100x times worse or more.

Israel massacres Palestinians all the time, and they have a state of their own.

Also even if Hamas did not exist, Israel would still be against a Palestinian state.

Forget about what was written on the meals. The biggest concern is that someone had access to the meals which raises a much bigger issue as if someone can write on the packaging, they could easily tamper with the food and do something much worse.

The airline needs to be charged with international hate crimes. They are responsible for the actions of the employee or contractor.

The liberals can cry all they want but antisemitism is at an all time high. No one has hated the Jewish people more than the left since Nazi Germany.

And yes, and Santastico said above, they probably spit in it too. Because the left is like that, see the freaks in Portland and Seattle. Which is today’s Democratic Party.

The meals in question should be checked for contamination. If the seal from caterer for kosher standards was intact, then the catering group should be accountable for any safety issue.

I check my anger about some comments here. Be truthful or be silent.

I have chosen not to be confrontational all along, but saying you don’t believe in starving people, while the IDF intentionally murdered 9 WCK aid workers, ( 7 on 1 April 24 , 1 on Nov 24 and 1 on 30 November 24). Support murder but not the war crime of starvation? This is the script of lies and posers trying to pretend to not be a snake.

I advocate only for children and peace.

And here we go again, taking an unfortunate, misguided incident that had little to do with Iberia Airlines and turning it into senseless debates that are completely off topic and offensive in spirit and language. That said, it’s odd the galley crew or serving FAs didn’t catch the anomaly on the packaging prior to serving; one would hope that the food containers would be better inspected by the crew.
