Here’s two reasons to watch your alcohol intake when flying: to avoid making a fool of yourself and spending a night with Bubba in a New York penitentiary.
Franck Lebrun, a French national on a Delta flight from Nice to New York, got hammered. Then he wanted to smoke. Then he did. Then he wanted another one. Then he didn’t like being told he couldn’t have another one. Then he attacked a FA after cussing her out. Then he wrestled with air marshalls. Now’s he behind bars.
In the incident on Delta Airlines flight 83, crew members suspected that someone had been smoking cigarettes in one of the lavatories and confronted Lebrun, telling him not to smoke.
"When Lebrun was observed walking toward the bathroom he was again instructed not to smoke," the complaint said.
"Lebrun appeared intoxicated and smelled of cigarettes and alcohol. Lebrun then approached a female flight crew attendant in an aggressive manner and pushed her away with both hands. When the airline attendant instructed Lebrun not to touch her, Lebrun pushed her away again with both hands."
Here’s what I don’t get: why don’t the lavatory smoke detectors ever work?
But there’s more:
This prompted the air marshals to handcuff and place him in the rear section of the aircraft.
Lebrun nonetheless "continued to verbally abuse individuals around him, yelling in substance ‘I’m French, f— you!’" the document said.
And they say we…never mind.
My other concern is that there were at least two FAMs on a flight from Nice to New York. I hate to sound crass, but how much do you want to bet they were "assinged" that flight because there were open seats in business class? As I blogged about in October, airlines are getting tired of FAMs taking the prime real estate onboad and perhaps placing FAMs on flights that would have had open seats in business class anyways was the undisclosed compromise. In any case, they were on the right flight this time.
To Monsieur Lebrun, I have only this to say: you might want to stop on your sixth whiskey next time if you don’t want your holiday ruined…
I bet there are Flight Air Marshals on every flight going to Nice. That is where all the pretty women are, I mean, those are the high risk flights.
If ‘they’ aren’t going to fix the headphone jacks, lights, etc that passengers actually use and want, do you really think the smoke alarms are being maintained???
