Review: Garuda Indonesia Business Class Lounge Bali (DPS)

Matthew Klint Posted onOctober 18, 2019October 18, 2019 8 Comments

Before my KLM flight to Singapore, I had some time to lounge hop in Bali. The Garuda Indonesia Business Class Lounge is basic, both in terms of comfort and food selection, but the best lounge in DPS.

As the designated SkyTeam lounge in DPS, my business class ticket gave me access. The lounge is also open to GarudaMiles Platinum members and SkyTeam Elite Plus flyers. It is open daily from 5:00AM until the last flight departs.

After entering the lounge, you turn leff for first class or right for business class.

Garuda Indonesia Business Class Lounge Bali Seating

The lounge is sort of S-shaped and includes general seating areas as well as smaller enclaves which provide more privacy. Power ports were difficult to come by, but the lounge never got so crowded as to be uncomfortable.

Garuda Indonesia Business Class Lounge Bali Restrooms + Showers

Restrooms and a single shower are available inside the lounge. The shower was in use, so I am not including a picture.

Garuda Indonesia Business Class Lounge Bali Food + Drink

Food seems to be where this lounge does best. Not only did the buffet items (Indonesian and western food) look good, but were nicely presented and there was a mie ayam jamur (noodles with chicken) bar.

I will say, however, that I had just eaten dinner in Bali before my flight and would be eating another two dinners on my KLM flight to Singapore, so I did not actually try the food…only looked at it.

There were drinks as well (coffee, tea, water, soda, beer, wine)…and even a bar, though I never saw an attendant staffing it.

CONCLUSION

Relative to the two Priority Pass lounges next door, I found this to be the superior lounge. The food did not look bad, the lounge was clean, and I liked the wood floors and wood paneling. That said, I still would not show up early just to use this lounge…not when there are so many incredible places to eat and relax in Bali.

Denied entry on a KE biz ticket as (paraphrase) ‘they do not want to pay’ and pointed to the PP lounge KE direct you to visit with a pass. After pointing out Skyteam rules, entry requirements, and giant stand out front with ‘Korean’ listed, they got frustrated with me and started getting very short in tone and effectively told me to get lost.

So… Matthew. When you criticized Fiji Airways for cutting dinner onboard and serving it in the lounge instead, you took the position that you actually wanted dinner at 11:30pm on a plane. You argued at length that that was believable and not just a position taken to criticize the airline for cutting a service.

I see here that you not only managed to visit a lounge in the evening well in time for a 9:30pm flight, but even had dinner beforehand, and looked forward to more food on the flight.

I guess Fiji made the right call, huh?

I like catering on KLM…doesn’t this show I like my meals on airplanes?

And the more important matter is what if I had skipped dinner and didn’t have time for the lounge?

Great review Matthew. I haven’t tried this lounge in DPS yet, but I’m about to. Looking forward to it after your report and pics.

Seriously the food may look ok but it is very poor. The temperature of the hot food is cold and I’d say a healthy hazard. Taste awful too. Worst lounge food I’ve experienced. On the plus side the staff are lovely and the lounge is very clean.

While not surprising, it is sad to see the growing list of carriers retiring this superjumbo jet. On Malaysia Airlines, I flew the #A380 once from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to London (LHR) and had the entire first class cabin to myself (full review on the blog). It was a beautiful flight that I will always remember.
