Review: Grand Hyatt Amman (Suite)

I love the Kingdom of Jordan very much and was happy to use the Grand Hyatt Amman as a springboard for activities all over the country.

Grand Hyatt Amman Check-In

We arrived in the middle of the night on an Aegean flight from Athens and finally arrived at the hotel about 4:00 A.M. I had made a reservation for the previous night but apparently that was not necessary…the hotel checked me in “early” and the first night never credited. I went back and forth with World of Hyatt over this and finally they relented and credited me the extra night that I paid for. Lesson learned: if you are arriving early, you probably do not need to pay for the extra night.

This is a Category 3 hotel and I used cash + points to pay for this. Cost was 6,000 points + $75. Had I paid outright, the cost would have been about $200, which seemed higher than the usual prevailing rate. The front desk staff must not encounter many Globalist (top-tier) Hyatt members and thanked me repeatedly for my business. I was also upgraded to Grand Suite.

The room was dated, but spacious. The living room featured a large L-shaped couch with coffee table and a desk. It also included a guest bathroom with toilet and sink only.

During the day:

An espresso machine, hot water kettle, and some free snacks (pistachios, dates, figs) were available in the living room.

The bedroom contained a king-sized bed, with small chair and closet:

The master bathroom included a separate shower and tub, though both were behind a single glass partition.

a tray with towels and a bottle of cream on it

Two additional thoughts on the room. First, I appreciated there were several outlets in helpful positions.

Second, it appeared like our suite had not been deep-cleaned for quite some time. Note the dust on the desk that was prevalent in other nooks and crannies around the room.

Grand Hyatt Amman Pools + Spa

We were not exactly tired and headed out to the pool deck to watch the sunrise. The hotel has both an indoor and outdoor pool. Summer days are punishingly hot in Amman, but the early morning temperature was very tolerable.

The indoor pool was much more crowded during the day than the outdoor one:

Club Olympus, the hotel spa, offers a gender-segregated stream room and sauna. Treatments are available.

Nearby, the fitness center features late-model cardiovascular and strength resistance machines.

Grand Hyatt Amman Grand Club

The spacious Grand Club offers breakfast in the morning, evening hors d’oeuvres, and light snacks throughout the day. Unfortunately, I cannot comment on the evening spread because we were out and about both evenings.

Grand Hyatt Amman Breakfast

Although the Grand Club offers a nice breakfast, I strongly recommend you head down to 32º North, which offers an extensive buffet in an open-kitchen. I love having tabbouleh, labneh, and hummus for breakfast with fresh fruit and dried dates. The eggs and waffles are not bad either. And don’t forget to try the fresh-squeezed juices. I really enjoyed breakfast here.

Grand Hyatt Amman Dining

Other dining options at the hotel include L’Incontro (Italian), The Lounge (snacks, teas, coffee, cocktails), and The Terrace (same as The Lounge, only outside). The dining areas are beautiful:

Grand Hyatt Amman Security

Although Amman and the whole of Jordan is actually quite safe, the hotel does carefully check every car entering the property for bombs. You will also go though a metal detector as you enter the building.

CONCLUSION

This is a lovely hotel with well-intentioned service and a great breakfast spread. This property checks the box of many categories, including family-friendly but also business-friendly and couples-friendly. I look forward to returning.

Thanks for the nice review. I just stayed there last month as part of a trip all over Jordan. Fantastic city and country.

Down the street there is an awesome roadside shawarma vendor.

In a Muslim country watching the sun rise and hearing the call to prayer is fantastic!

In 2005 that hotel was hit in a coordinated attack, hence the careful security.

    Great review. Thanks!

Indeed, I should have added that the call to prayer was beautiful.

I’ve been to Jordan a few times now and may consolidate everything into one post.

Thanks for this review, it is timely for us as we are planning to visit Amman / Jordan in December. What is the location of this hotel? We have reservations at the Sheraton. Which is better? Is this closer to downtown?

I’ve also stayed at the Le Meridien and like the Hyatt much more. Cannot comment on Sheraton.

They check for bombs because this hotel was one of those involved in a terror attack about 20 years ago. IIRC, LeM , which is just across the street, was part of the same attack. Dozens of people died, including many at a wedding party.

Correction: the other hotel in that terror attack was a Radisson and not the LeM. It was 2005.

@ Matthew — Nice to see that these standard suites have been renovated. They were horrific when we went to Jordan several years ago, In fact, they were so bad that we headed straight downstairs to check out (the FCQ was not so nice about it) and go back to the IC down the street. They convinced us to stay by giving us some massive, gorgeous specialty suite that was one of our best suites ever.
