Paris is known for many things, but coffee is not one of them. Nevertheless, I’ve found two wonderful coffee shops (chains as it turns out) that I look forward to returning to.
Best Coffee In Paris
First up, a little coffee shop in the Vendôme neighborhood called Café Nuances.
Café Nuances
25 Rue Danielle Casanova
75001 Paris, France
8:00 am – 7:00 pm (Monday – Friday)
9:00 am – 7:00 pm (Satuday – Sunday)
Café Nuances has four locations in Paris and offers a full espresso menu plus matcha, single-origin blends, and baked goods.
I ordered a cortado, which was strong and delicious, though a bit smaller than I’m used to (felt like an espresso macchiato rather than a cortado). Still delicious.
Next, I found a French coffee chain with 17 locations in Paris (with six more slated to open “soon”) called Noir. Noir means black in French…a fitting name for a coffee shop.
Noir
120 Boulevard Haussmann
75008 Paris, France
8:00 am – 6:00 pm (Monday – Friday)
9:00 am – 12:00 pm / 12:30 pm – 7:00 pm (Saturday – Sunday)
This is a fancy coffee shop with steep prices, but excellent coffee and baked goods.
I had a flat white while the kids had a madeleine.
My only complaint here was the very limited seating inside. The café is very small…the kids and I shared a small bench that was not ideal because I had to hold my coffee in my hand.
Noir is also opening a location in London. I can’t wait!
Finally, I should also give an honorable mention for the coffee in the Park Hyatt Paris. I’ve stayed many times at the Park Hyatt Paris and consistently enjoyed excellent coffee.
I’m curious if any of you have tips for other places I can try next time. I love Paris and I love coffee, but I’ve struggled to find great coffee in this city over the years. Let me know if you have any places for me to check out on future trips.
Whoever thought Matthew would be discussing “good coffee” in an article about France…
Your statement about Paris coffee being bad was true 15 years ago, but not anymore. So many good places now.

Noir looks nice. I’ll have to seek it out. Surprised the seating is so restricted. Did it seem like they wanted you to take it to go? I wouldn’t expect that in Paris, but who knows.
I don’t think they wanted me to take it to go…was just packed. Usually a good sign!
For coffee, try Cafe Kitsune in the Palais Royale. The kids can play in the small gated gardens.

We ate at Cafe Kitsune near Hotel du Louvre. It was good…I should add it to the list.
I went to Noir this past weekend and were surprised by the prices. A flat white and a cold brew came to 13 euros (~$15) – expensive even by NYC standard. Good coffee though.
