06 November UPDATE: The 18-hour standoff has ended, with the suspect surrendering to police officers. His four-year-old daughter was unharmed.
The man, of Turkish origin, had driven up to a Turkish Airlines plane in an attempt to board a flight to Istanbul (you would think that buying a ticket would have worked better then driving through a fence and onto the tarmac…)
Hamburg Airport remained closed until Sunday evening, but expects a normal operation today:

The hostage standoff impacted 286 flights and over 34,000 passengers, with many incoming flights diverting to nearby Hannover (HAJ).
Hamburg mayor Peter Tschentscher wrote on X:
“I wish the mother, the child and her family a lot of strength to cope with this terrible experience.”

Hamburg Airport is closed as police officers deal with a hostage standoff on the airport premises.
Hostage Situation At Hamburg Airport
Here’s what we know so far:
- Shortly after 8:00 pm local time (3:00 pm ET), a man drove through an airport barrier near Terminal 1 and onto the airport grounds of Hamburg Airport toward parked aircraft
- His Audi had no license plate
- Concurrently, he fired a weapon twice in the air
- He also threw two burning bottles out of the vehicle
- Police described the incendiary devices as “Molotov cocktails”
- The man, 35-years-old but as of yet unidentified, is thought to have a four-year-old child in the car he is holding hostage
- He purportedly planned to drive the child to Turkey
- Earlier, the child’s mother had called the police to report a suspected child abduction
- Both state and federal police officers have responded as well as special forces and the fire department
- The airport is currently closed
- At least 27 flights have thus far been impacted
I’m guessing he’s a Norwegian
Turkish. Since the Islamic Kalifat will take another year or two to establish across Germany, he wants to go visit Erdogan now with his daughter, heaven on earth over there.
Was this lame-brain guy desperately trying to kidnap his own young daughter or other little blood relative because Germany wouldn’t take custody away from the mother/foster mom or issue the child a passport?
Trying to illegally board a plane using his own relative as a hostage seems like one of the more insane attempts at family reunification, and those really can get insane. For a while Canada was like at the top of the league for child kidnappings because of dishonored custody rights by kidnapped children’s legally alienated parents/relatives.
