I’m ending the year with only 41 nights in the World of Hyatt program, yet I will retain my Globalist status for another year thanks to a 20-night Hyatt Fast Track challenge.
Hyatt Globalist Fast Track – How I Re-Qualified With Only 20 Nights
You may recall that earlier this year I provided a grim midyear elite status progress report. At the time, I saw no possible way of earning Globalist status again for 2023. Of all airline and hotel statuses, I find World of Hyatt Globalist the most valuable because I highly value the benefits (including room upgrades, free breakfast, and late checkout) that are consistently applied at properties around the world.
In August, I read about an unpublished Fast Track offer on Flyertalk and other online forums and a friend suggested I call up Hyatt to see if I could sign-up. I no longer have a concierge because I have not stayed 60 nights since 2019 (in 2020 and 2021 my status was simply extended, as was true for all World of Hyatt members).
I called the Globalist line and the first agent was well-aware of the offer. I explained that my travel to Asia was still limited due to the pandemic and asked if I could take advantage of this promo. She went silent for a moment while she reviewed my account, then came back and said, “Mr. Klint, due to your long-term loyalty to Hyatt, I am happy to enroll you in this challenge. From the date of your next stay, you will have 90 days to complete 20 nights to retain your status through February 2024.”
I had read that some received the 90-day offer and others were told they only had to stay 20 nights before February 28, 2023. I received the 90-day offer…and I got to work. Over that three-month period from mid-August to mid-November, I did stay 20 nights and once I crossed the 20 nights, my status did update to reflect a February 29, 2024 expiration.
Were there a few unnecessary stays during the 90-day period? I suppose…though my kids enjoy just going to a hotel for a night for swimming and breakfast. But if you read my hotel reviews you know that I put the breakfast and upgrade benefits to very good use. I highly value Hyatt status.
CONCLUSION
Next year will be different (famous last words…). For the first half of 2022, I stayed in more Four Seasons than Hyatts. While that was actually a nice change of pace, I plan to be more strategic next year in planning out my 60 Hyatt nights and aggressively meeting that goal. In the meantime, I am thankful for the Fast Tack offer that helped me preserve my Globalist status for another year.
As far as I know, this offer is ongoing, so if you find yourself in a similar predicament, you might consider calling Hyatt and asking to take part.
Thanks for letting us know about this in mid-August . . . . .
Has been all over the interwebs – but it’s still not too late.
I called them and they said it expired Nov 30th.
Do you know if it’s the same one?
Unfortunately, I do not know.
How is it not too late? Would they allow this to be applied retroactively?
It was my understanding this was still going.
Nice. I’m glad this worked out for you.
As a bit of an aside, are there any specific areas of Flyertalk that you suggest following? I love the idea but find the whole thing a little unwieldy and intimidating unless I have a specific question that I can trace to a particular forum for an answer.
If you only had 41 nights but retained Globalist for another year, does that mean you didn’t get the two or four confirmed suite upgrades which typically require 50 or 60 nights to acquire?
I will end the year with 70 nights at Hyatt thanks to my work HQ being next to a Grand Hyatt. Problem is that they moved offices and now I am nowhere near a Hyatt so will try to enjoy my last year as Globalist in 2023 using it for family vacation. Is it even worthy using my concierge?
I can’t answer as to what you’ve used your concierge for previously, but presumably you’re still going to need some help with confirmed suite upgrades, connecting rooms, and other stuff of a similar vein. You can call the Globalist number or use your concierge as a single contact point. The single contact makes it vastly easier if things go wrong IMO.
Think of her like a friend. Or a neighbor. You know all about that, Santastico. 🙂
What are your other status plans? Assuming you’re keeping for 1K?
85 nights for me – 12 nights in the hotel and the rest CC spend (hello home health care!) — I will be using my suite upgrades at the Hyatt House near Boulder to go from a studio to a one bedroom.
In 2022 I was hoping for 60 nights, but I earned 75 nights. Mostly due to a combination of a cross country roadtrip and credit card spend. My plan for 2023 is the same.
Cross-country road trip. Sounds fun!
Any whispers of a Jan/Feb bonus journeys/double nights promo?
None yet, but I would not be surprised to see one.
similar situation………….my strategy was to spend my way to status…………prepaid lots of utility bills, insurance, etc…….
usaa insurance allows prepayment (i did 5000)…………..took some effort but well worth it…………globalist status value huge as you all know…………….hopefully 2023 hyatt will unleash some new promotions to help………my fear that devaluation trend will continue as the world gets more and more expensive…………my question to you or anybody in the points universe HOW CAN I TAKE ADVANTAGE OF DOZENS OF FRIENDS THAT DO NOTHING OR USE POINTS FOR GOLF CLUBS AND BIG SCREEN TVS WHILE WE GET $$$$$$$$$$ WORTH?
