We spent a short night at the Hyatt Place Frankfurt Airport and had a very nice stay. With the S-Bahn station literally right outside, this hotel is one of the most convenient off-site properties at Frankfurt Airport.
Hyatt Place Frankfurt Airport Review
My biggest gripe about this hotel when it first opened was that it was very difficult to get to. That is no longer the case. With the opening of the Gateway Gardens S-Bahn (train) station, you now have an easy way to the airport or into central Frankfurt just a few paces away. This is a huge value-add for this hotel.
After arriving from Malta just before 8:00 pm, we proceeded to the regional train station located below Terminal 1 and took the train one stop to Gateway Gardens. Upon arrival, we turned right, went up two sets of escalators and found ourselves right at the hotel.
Check-in was quick and we were assigned our room for the night, a simple and small room with two beds. The room was €89, which was far cheaper than the Hilton or Marriott inside the airport (the Sheraton was sold out).
I appreciated the instant coffee from Julis Meinl and took it with me in case the coffee turned out poorly on our flights home (it was fine).
There was also a note and welcome amenity (jar of snack mix) string in the room, which was impressive considering I only booked a few hours prior to arrival.
I went downstairs about an hour later and was surprised to see more than a dozen people in line with only one agent on duty. I was very thankful that I avoided that line…
We left the hotel at 5:00 am, so no breakfast or fitness training this time around. Breakfast is no longer included for all guests: only Globalist members receive free breakfast.
CONCLUSION
We needed a place to lay our heads and the Hyatt Place Frankfurt Airport proved perfectly reasonable and less than half the price of the Hilton and a quarter of the price of the Marriott or Sheraton. That line would have annoyed me, but everything about my stay went smoothly.
My first review, from February 8, 2019 and still on point except for the gripe about location and change in breakfast policy, is below.
I recently spent a night the Hyatt Place Frankfurt Airport, the first Hyatt Place hotel in Frankfurt. I can sum up my stay in two sentences: the hotel is comfortable. The location is a tad annoying.
I had a free night certificate expiring from Chase that I made use of here. The nightly rate was only 99EUR so it wasn’t the best use of a free night cert, but came in handy.
Hyatt Place Frankfurt Airport Location
The hotel is a five minute drive from Terminal 1 or a four minute drive from Terminal 2. It’s convenient if you arrive when a shuttle pulls up. Otherwise, you’re going to have to wait, walk, or drop 15-20EUR on a quick cab trip (and tick off the driver, who has likely been waiting 4-5 hours for a fare).
I arrived on British Airways in Terminal 2 and chose to walk, since the shuttle only serves Terminal 1. Google Maps indicated it was a 17-minute walk from Terminal 2, but that involved a dangerous street crossing. Roads were under construction near the hotel, which made walking rather perilous.
The hotel is clustered in an area of budget hotels. You’ll find a Moxy and Hampton Inn a few paces from the Hyatt Place.
Hyatt Place Frankfurt Airport Shuttle
A complimentary shuttle (shared by the neighboring Moxy hotel) leave the hotel on the hour and on the half between 5AM and 10PM and depart Terminal 1 at :15 and :45 after the hour. Both times I used the shuttle it was late. Again, it is annoying the shuttle does not serve Terminal 2.
Hyatt Place Frankfurt Airport Common Areas
The hotel has a modern look with limited seating areas on the ground floor lobby outside the restaurant and bar. But if you just want to sit down and work no one is going to stop you or try to slap you with a cover charge for sitting in the bar or dining area.
Hyatt Place Frankfurt Airport Dining
A complimentary buffet-style breakfast is included in the morning for all hotel guests. You’ll find all your western breakfast favorites included eggs, bacon, ham, mushrooms, tomatoes, yogurt, cereal, breads, meats, cheeses, pancakes, and more. The coffee…well, I’ve had better.
The hotel offers a restaurant called Zoom that is open daily from 11:00AM to 10:00PM offering a menu of mostly-German food with tastes from around the world.
The “Coffee to Cocktails” bar offers barista-made coffee, beers, wines, spirits, and cocktails.
There’s also a 24/7 Market Cafe where you can purchase a ready-made meal or a snack and warm it up in the microwave.
Hyatt Place Frankfurt Airport Guest Room
I was pleasantly surprised by the guest room, which I thought was both spacious and smartly designed. My room had a large table that served as a desk, separate couch area, and a comfortable bed.
The bathroom was quite small and did not have a bathtub.
I appreciated that the room had complimentary water, though that was likely due to my World of Hyatt status.
Hyatt Place Frankfurt Airport Gym
One guest room has been converted into a gym, which includes free weights, a single resistance machine with several functions, and some cardiovascular equipment. I greatly missed a sauna and steam room.
Hyatt Place Frankfurt Airport Parking
A parking structure is available. If you are using points, you won’t pay for parking. Otherwise, it is up to 24EUR per day.
Hyatt Place Frankfurt Airport Service
The young associate who checked me in and was quick to recognize my Globalist status. I was thanked again for my status when I checked out. That was the extent of my interaction with staff!
CONCLUSION
For a quick stay in which I essentially only spent the night working in the hotel, it served its purpose quite nicely. I wanted to give this hotel a try and liked it, but I will 100% be back at the Hyatt Regency in Mainz next time I travel to Frankfurt.
Unfortunately the breaktfest is only included for Gobalist Members, all other guest are charged.
Echt? They told me everyone.
Much better than MOXY nearby
100% agree, much better than the Moxy. We had to wait on the bartenders to finish drink orders before they would check us in on the opposite end of the bar at the Moxy. Guess that’s regarded as “hip” these days.
Much better than MOXY nearby. I chose MOXY because of my Marriott membership, but next time I visit Frankfurt, I want to use Hyatt.
Why is that a Hyatt Place? Hyatt’s website markets it as a 4-star hotel. It should be a Hyatt or Hyatt Regency. I really don’t understand Hyatt’s expansion at times. Outside of the lack of a closet and maybe more limited F&B, it doesn’t look any different than the Marriott and Sheraton inside FRA. Speaking of which, that’s basically the same hotel with just two sections branded differently. I’ve never understood that.
Incorrect. *Free breakfast is not included at Hyatt Place Kyoto, Hyatt Place Yantai Development Zone, Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport, Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit, Hyatt Place Frankfurt Airport, Hyatt Place Krakow, Hyatt Place London City East, Hyatt Place London Heathrow Airport, Hyatt Place Melbourne Caribbean Park, Hyatt Place Melbourne Essendon Fields, Hyatt Place New Taipei City Xinzhuang, Hyatt Place Paris Charles de Gaulle, Hyatt Place Zurich Airport The Circle, Hyatt Place Johor Bahru, and The Forester, a Hyatt Place hotel.
If the coffee was bad on the flight, have you had the flight attendant make you coffee from pod you brought on board personally ?
No, I just ask for hot water. This was powder.
5:00 AM ain’t that early. Come on, bro… Never miss a Monday!!
With a jet lagged 3 year old and 6 year old it is!
Thanks for the tip about the train! I am definitely staying here at this Hyatt Place next time I have a layover at FRA.
I notice that there is a REWE supermarket as well as some restaurants in the block/area too.
Adrian
I have an upcoming stay there in December. Sadly dropped down to Explorist so I’m contemplating booking a Hilton property instead to make use of the free breakfast as a Diamond. If the Hyatt Place does indeed serve free breakfast to all guests I will keep my current reservation. 3500 points is killer value when the cash rate is €140 for the same night.
No, I was incorrect. Breakfast is not included except for Globalist members.
