Last week I was in Frankfurt for a night and rather than head to my usual Hyatt Regency Mainz, decided to check out the Hyatt Place “at” Frankfurt Airport.
The hotel opened in 2018 and looks and smells brand new. My room was spacious and very comfortable. The bedding was great and I liked the extra alcove with the couch. Power ports were plentiful.
I skipped breakfast in favor of dining in the Lufthansa First Class Terminal, but I did check it out before I left and the spread looked very decent. The common areas look trendy now and hopefully will age well.
Avoid the machine-dispensed coffee at the buffet and drop an extra few Euros for a “real” cup of coffee at the bar, if you are into coffee like me.
But the location. Oh, the location. I landed in Frankfurt on British Airways in Terminal 2. Rather than walk over to Terminal 1 for the shuttle pick-up, I decided to walk…Google Maps said 14 minutes. But there is all sorts of construction going on and the trip took nearly double that (and I’m a fast walker). It was painful. Just drop 12EUR for a cab or wait for the shuttle.
The hotel is really located in the middle of nowhere. Actually, it’s located next to an LSG Sky Chef facility and a Condor building with several three-star hotels clustered around it. But no restaurants or train stations. I hopped on the shuttle and returned to the airport. When I finished dinner and returned to the hotel, around midnight, the shuttle had already stopped running. In a very un-German-like way, the shuttle back to the airport the following morning was five minutes late.
CONCLUSION
I’ll post a full review with many additional photos, but I do not plan to return to this property. The room was not only nice, but very nice for the price-point (under 100EUR/night). The common areas of the hotel are also nice. But the location is just plain annoying. If I need to the stay near the airport, I’ll just stick to the Hilton or Sheraton in Terminal 1.
Isn’t there a shuttle from Terminal 2? The hotel shuttle that services all the other hotels in the area stops at both terminals.
By contrast, I loved the Hilton at The Squaire @ Frankfurt Airport. Comfortable quiet room and nice lounge/breakfast. Not luxurious but very convenient access to train station & air terminals.
Please note for your review that Deutschd Bahn is just building an S Bahn station (https://www.s-bahn-gatewaygardens.de) right next to this hotel.
Once that is open in 2020 it will be a 1 minute train ride to Terminal 1 and suddenley the location will be very attrctive 😉
Oh, that’s great news. Also for the Holiday Inn (which is much more like a Holiday Inn Express)…
