Hyatt Regency Zurich Airport – Always Convenient, Perfect For Families

I’ve extensively reviewed the Hyatt Regency Zurich Airport twice, including recently, and will not do so again here. However, this remains my go-to hotel in Zurich and continues to nicely blend luxury, affordability, and convenience.

Hyatt Regency Zurich Airport – Convenient Family Hotel

We just spent one night here prior to our early departure on KLM to Amsterdam. 180CHF is quite a bit more than this hotel cost during the pandemic on a cold winter night, but still a superb value considering we had access to the Regency Club and complimentary breakfast in Babel Restaurant.

I just love an executive lounge when I am with the kids, because going out to eat (even for fondue) can be tedious. Instead, we had a big lunch prior to driving to Zurich and after an afternoon at the Kunshaus (art museum), we enjoyed a light dinner in the lounge. Easy and convenient, especially considering it was Sunday when most grocery stores and many restaurants were closed.

The selection did not rival a hotel lounge in Asia, but there was a nice selection of cold Mediterranean mezze.

Dessert too…

Our room was small, but perfectly fine to get a good rest before a big travel day (two twin beds).

We pulled ourselves out of bed at 6:00 am in order to eat before our flight and enjoyed a very nice buffet breakfast in Babel restaurant. Omelets are made to order and the buffet has a great selection of hot and cold items, including some really delectable halloumi cheese. The orange juice is fresh-squeezed and while the coffee is not great, it also is not bad. I loved the blueberries (out of season).

Finally, the hotel is so convenient. We simply walked out, though “The Circle,” and crossed the street to the airport. We then proceeded upstairs to drop our bags off and were quickly on our way through security. The whole process was so easy and made an early morning flight so much more doable.

CONLCUSION

We will continue to use the Hyatt Regency Zurich as our base in Zürich. It is a great hotel, especially for families (if you have lounge access or breakfast included) and it is very easy to reach the airport by foot.

Convenient if you are staying by the airport to catch an early flight. Otherwise, not convenient if you want to explore Zurich which you can do by walking if you stay in the city. I was just there and a taxi from the city to the airport takes 10 minutes so easy to reach the airport when needed.

But the train or taxi is easy from the hotel into the city. If you pay 1/3 as much for the room as in town, you might still come out ahead.

Don’t disagree but having the ability to just walk out of the hotel and be in the city makes a huge difference. Hoping on a train or taking a taxi usually reduces my willingness to go out and explore as much as I would by just walking out. I just spent a full week in Zurich and stayed at the Marriot. I got a newly renovated room that was amazing. There was a note saying I was one of the first guests to stay in that room so if anything was wrong I should let them know. Had a view to the river and it was a 5 minute walk to the Old town. It was just perfect.

Yes the train is quite easy without luggage for visiting given it is a 10 minute ride.

Although not sure the savings are all that impressive or even realized. The Hyatts on my stay this weekend were more expensive than similar modern hotels in Altstetten, physically closer and 15 minutes tram to the city, 5 minutes train, or if you like to walk 30 minutes through parts of the city.

Personally prefer non-US hotels when traveling abroad – they tend to be a better value if you’re not so into big breakfasts.

But I did stay at the Hyatt Place using a free night cert after a late night arrival given pretty much everything decent was over $200 a night. It had very nice rooms, and had a nice healthy breakfast at one of the many spots to eat in The Circle (of course the airport food court is also quite close).

The next morning paid a visit to ‘Schaffhausen’ which was closer to the airport proximity wise than if staying in Zurich.

I was gonna say that I had booked a room in a boutique hotel (for 4 adults) in the city center, 3 min walk from the main station, for $130/night… then I checked again, and the rate is now double that. I guess I just had that pandemic discount going on (this was ~1.5ish years ago)

It’s a busy summer, rates afterward look more normal. For a lot of Europeans this is the first truly pandemic free summer of travel, and even some Americans.

I don’t know what “normal” is in Zurich, but I’m sure it’s still expensive rofl. I’d like to go back (maybe not ZRH, but GVA), but also Asia is calling me once again… and they’re just about wide open.

Too bad they didn’t have watermelon, it goes great with grilled halloumi.

Given that the Club was serving mezze, do they also get their food from Babel?

I believe so. In fact, for the first year the lounge was not open in the evening except for coffee and tea – guests were directed to Babel for the happy hour.

Hi Matthew, How do you fit 4 people in a room with 2 twin beds?

Two per bed. I know how to spoon! 😉

That green couch looks like it can maybe accommodate one your kids as well?
