Spirit Airlines Captain Runs Out Of Cockpit After Woman Yells “I Hope Y’All Crash And Die!”

a group of people in an airplane

A woman thrown off a Spirit Airlines flight reacted to other passengers booing her by screaming, “I hope ya’ll crash and die!” at the front of the plane. Her quip prompted the Captain to storm out of the cockpit in search of her.

Woman Yells “I Hope Y’All Crash And Die!” Outside Cockpit After Being Thrown Off Spirit Airlines Flight

It is not clear why the woman and her companion were thrown off or what destination in Florida they were traveling to (joking). But what is clear, is a woman was removed for something and her fellow passengers were very happy she was removed from the flight.

https://liveandletsfly.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/I-Hope-YAll-Crash-And-Die.mp4

As she made the “walk of shame” up the aisle, passengers booed her as she walked by.

As she turned at the front galley to step off the plane, she turned back and yelled, “I hope ya’ll crash and die!”

This prompted the flight attendant to say something to the captain and moments later the captain came scurrying out and stepped off the plane, stepping back on a few moments later.

There’s all sorts of debate on Reddit on why the captain bothered to step out of the flight deck and off the plane to go after this woman. What difference did it make considering she was already off the aircraft?

But I defend the captain’s action – when you have an unstable person like that, you want to make sure that she does not damage the aircraft or hang back on the jet bridge for some other nefarious reason.

Others considered the woman’s comment an actionable threat, but I would not go that far. Even if she actually meant what she said, she did not threaten to harm or kill anyone herself. But while not actionable, that added statement may make it more likely she is permanently banned from Spirit Airlines or prosecuted for the underlying action that prompted the ejection in the first place.

CONCLUSION

A woman responded to being booed by making wishing everyone onboard a crash and death. Whatever the context that prompted that outburst, it will not help her case. On the one hand, I do not understand why humans have to be so confrontational. She was walking off the plane – why make the situation and potentially the delay worse? On the other hand, I get that there is a sort of natural response to shame others when they act poorly. In any case, when thrown off a flight, don’t dig a deeper grave by making stupid statements…

This is one of the worst bits of journalism that I’ve ever read. Maybe in your mind the important issue of the story is the comment she made after being escorted off the plane. But in readers minds the important part of the story is why her and her companion were taken off the plane to begin with. You just left the readers hanging in limbo. Stupid story!

Agreed! And this blogger is ignorant for making light of her comment and the Capt following her after she was already off the plane. He had good reason to and was NOT being unnecessarily confrontational or overacting. This so called writer must be a bleeding heart moron and it’s his type that go so easy on nut jobs like her, resulting in all the insanity and increased crime rates we have.

Has it been established that she acted poorly to get kicked off the plane? Isn’t it possible the flight attendants and captain abused their authority and kicked a woman off a plane because she complained of bad service or a flight attendant didn’t like how she made eye contact? Flight attendants routinely lie just like cops do to justify their actions. We can’t know who acted poorly. It’s just as likely the captain or flight attendants based on how it’s been in the last 10 years.

She has a right to feel how she feels and express herself. Saying I hope so and so happens to you is protected speech. I can’t blame her for saying what she said. If she feels she was abused by the flight and cabin crew and most of the passengers demeaned her, it’s natural to hope karma gets them.

People who wish ill will on others never seem to understand why bad things keep happening to them. Somehow, the world is always against them.
Somehow, they always have the worst luck.
Somehow, everyone does better than them.
    They just don’t get it.

She should have been arrested for her comment. I don’t care what the reason she was removed from the aircraft, her comment wishing the plane would crash and everyone would die is justification for her being incarcerated.

The day will come when a former PAX will challenge a flight ban claiming discrimination or prejudice. If so, let’s have a test case and see how the courts handle this. We are at a point when such a ruling (banning a PAX based on prior behavior or acts) will become the norm as the number of PAX grows exponentially. All three will be reluctant, but guidance is incumbent from the FAA, Congress, or the courts.

Most of the facts are missing in this story. I for one would not loose any sleep about being banned from spirit airlines. I flew them twice. There are a dozen valid reasons why, but in short it was the most miserable frustrating times of my life. For example, on one trip they left me stranded in the ft Lauderdale airport and I had to rent a car to get home. They refunded $20 for a ticket the charged me $180 for. Never again.

I was a flight attendant for 40 years
It’s clearly difficult being a pax.
Most people leave their common sense at the boarding door , Please just bring it with you, no extra charge. It’s really hard being a pax .
Just relax and enjoy the ride .

I’m not sure where your perspective is, but given the threat of wanting everyone to die in a crash, I commend the captain for doing what we can only assume he did: he made sure she was turned over to the correct authorities in the hopes that she would be put on the do-not-fly list. The captain has my praise!

      That’s not a threat!!
Threat defintion from Oxford dictionary: a statement of AN INTENTION to inflict pain, injury, damage, or other hostile action on someone in retribution for something done or not done. There’s no intention in expressing a wish.

Only moments after the couple was thrown off the Spirit Airlines flight, the plane took off but failed to maintain altitude. The plane crashed with no survivors.
