I’m Booked on the American Airlines 787 Inaugural!

I had a great time on the Qatar A350 inaugural from Doha to Frankfurt last month — there is something special about being on inaugural flights. American Airlines took delivery of its first 787-8 this week and has just published its inaugural flight — from Dallas to Chicago on 07, May 2015.

Business class is sold out (for now at least) and economy class fares are extremely high if you just book the Dallas to Chicago flight by itself ($582), but check on making Chicago the connection city rather than the destination and you should find cheaper fares, like this for instance to JFK–

I am looking forward to flying on AA’s new 787!

I booked the inaugural flight last night around 1am. SMF-PHX-DFW-ORD for only $207! Can’t wait!

Great price Rocky! Did you book via US Airways?

Ill see you there! Booked AA 2320 inaugural this morning. But I think you meant May 7th, not 17th.

Looks like I’ll be joining you guys as well. I was really hoping to do coach one way/business the other to try out both products, but AA’s scheduling of the 788 blows chunks – a 7:15 A.M. outbound and 10:25 P.M. return, which makes a day trip exceedingly difficult. Coach fares had shot up to $800+, and so while I hate burning an AAnytime award for a domestic flight, this seemed like as good a reason as any to use one. I ended up buying a revenue fare on the return for $105, so 30,000 miles + $5.60 + $105 seems like a decent deal for avoiding a lifetime of regret for not making this happen.

BTW, AA has some serious bugginess in their system. My award ticketed with the correct flight number, but it shows up with the old departure time, and still pulls up the old A320 seat map! Oh well, at least I have a seat; the schedule change can be updated later.

See you onboard. Managed to grab an F seat when it went F7A7 around 1am.

It’s like a meetup and I’m missing it! Congrats you guys! And yes, I’m very jealous.

@Matt, I booked it on AA. But I took a huge risk that worked out in my favor – I explained in on my blog

There is a return flight from ORD -DFW Flt 2320 on 787-8 from 1210pm arriving just before 3pm into DFW. According to the AA site that is.

I snagged a seat for $211.00 up and back. They have moved my seat a few times but I am hoping to be able to change it as it gets closer.
