A viral video of a social media personality “sleeping” shirtless in Emirates’ business class cabin has reignited debates about inflight etiquette, influence culture, and what should be considered acceptable behavior at 30,000 feet.
Influencer Sleeps Shirtless In Emirates Business Class…And Yes, You Should Still Keep Your Shirt On
I’ve covered plenty of airline social media moments, some entertaining, some obnoxious, and some that spiral into internet outrage for reasons that feel disproportionate. The latest involves an influencer with a large following (I had never heard of him before, but thanks to One Mile At A Time for flagging) who posted a video that appears to show him waking up shirtless in Emirates’ Airbus A380 business class cabin as it approached Milan. Critics were predictably unkind, with the comments section filling with admonitions to put a shirt on.
@jpark_fit Horizontal 30,000ft in the sky is a W. #emirates #jparkfit #morningroutine
Let’s be clear: no matter how comfortable you are in your own skin, flying shirtless in a shared public space is not great etiquette. Even in business class, you’re surrounded by strangers with different sensitivities. There are safety considerations too. In the unlikely event of turbulence, hot liquids, or an emergency evacuation, exposed skin is more vulnerable. But this also isn’t the outrage of the century either.
The video itself is clearly crafted for content value. In it, the influencer narrates his “business class morning routine,” greeting cabin crew, freshening up, ordering breakfast, and relaxing before landing. Whether he actually spent hours shirtless asleep or just took it off briefly for filming isn’t really the point.
As One Mile At A Time noted, what is worth noting is that no one was harmed, no crew was disrupted on video, and at least from the available footage there was no glaring violation of safety protocols. Inflating this into a morality drama about airline etiquette says more about our collective frustration with influencer culture than it does about the specifics of this incident.
Still, there’s a practical rule at play. Commercial cabins are public spaces with shared norms. Nobody boarding an aircraft should expect privacy comparable to their bedroom at home (or an Emirates first class shower suite a few feet away on the same aircraft). And while some might argue that Emirates’ business class seats on the A380 create a quasi-private environment, that’s not how public spaces work. Courtesy and respect for shared norms matter.
But critics of social media culture have a point in general. Influencer content often skews toward spectacle over substance, and posting anything that makes someone uncomfortable for the sake of views has become almost toxic. In this case, though, the spectacle seems relatively harmless. And yes, I’m not outraged because the guy is ripped…had it been an obese flyer, I’m honest enough to say I would have been absolutely disgusted by it. Different strokes for different folks is the reason we should all leave our shirts on in public…
CONCLUSION
At the end of the day, don’t expect your fellow passengers to celebrate your great abs or pecs at 35,000 feet, even if our society tends to grant more tolerance to good looking men and women. But when you think about what actually matters on a flight, safety, crew respect, and general courtesy, this ranks as a low-level distraction. Not great, but far less offensive than some of the antics by other vloggers who must constantly gin up controversy or feign outrage in order to stay relevant. This guy at least keeps thing positive and it is commendable how he takes care of himself.
I will say this, though. Rather than direct outrage toward this guy, join me in hitting the gym, eating healthy, and getting enough sleep night. That way, you can have a fit body too. Just keep your shirt on. I’ll try to do the same…

Honestly, don’t really care what he does in his seat why do people care? So what if he is shirtless.
You wanna normalize this? Ok, do it next time you fly Spirit.
Because it’s not his seat. This isn’t a private jet. It’s a public space. There is one place where you can do whatever you want and no one will care. It’s called a home. Everywhere else is part of society.
Honestly, what an insane question. “Why do people care?”. Come on.
It’s not a problem since he’s good looking.
It would be a problem if he was some fat hairy gross person.
There are double standards as there should be. More attractive people and people with money should be treated better in society. People call it “privilege” and I agree, IT IS a privilege and one that should be celebrated and encouraged in our society.
Nice virtue-signaling, “walter”…
Let’s hope there is a severe bout of turbulence when someone orders a hot tea.
Completely disagree with the notion that, “flying shirtless in a shared public space is not great etiquette.”
I work out shirtless at the gym, walk around town shirtless (granted it’s SD), and frequently am shirtless at bars near PB. When we have house parties, normal gatherings where people socialize and enjoy libations, I’m shirtless as are a lot of other people. Nobody seems to have a problem, and it’s not abnormal for a male in most societies to occasionally be shirtless in non-private settings.
Dude,
I get it. Men being shirtless is acceptable in certain settings. Shirtless at the beach is obvious. Going for a run – fine. Working out at Venice Beach, that is OK too. But someone would likely talk to me if I was shirtless at my gym. And as much as I prefer to take my shirt off when I play tennis, there are courts where such is barred.
But on a plane? Shirtless on a plane is so aberrant and outside of ordinary norms that someone could easily conclude that this person is potentially a problem to others.
I am not clutching my pearls here as I rather suspect that the shirtless aspect was staged and may have lasted for no longer than was necessary for the immediate shenanigans – do note that in the footage of the influencer walking in the aisle, he has long sleeves.
Right. All due respect, no evidence supports hygiene or health concerns from someone sleeping shirtless under blankets in an enclosed suite with the mattress pad.
If you want to talk social norms, these business class suites are billed as creating private spaces, and many people (myself included) sleep shirtless. Seems weird to expect an adult male to keep his shirt on while laying flat. Makes me wonder what hangups people are working with.
Dude wearing a shirt going down the aisle points toward him observing norms around other people’s comfort. I’d say the aberrant thing is to care whether some rando bro sleeps shirtless on a plane.
Stop giving these assholes exactly what they want – attention. Until people decide getting clicks isn’t’t worth the ethical cost to give them attention, society will continue to go down the drain. But you would rather get the clicks. Trumpistan is the result. Look in the mirror to see who’s really responsible.
Matt, I would encourage you to refrain from posting the pics or links when you comment on negative influencer behavior. That’s what they want. That’s why they do it. You are literally working for this guy by reposting this.
Some airlines keep their cabins very warm “at night” which makes it impossible to sleep. If your first class of business class seat has a “door” it is perfectly normal to sleep in your underwear with or without a tee shirt for a man. As it is perfectly normal to change from your street clothes to PJs in Etihad’s first class apartment with the door shut. SQ Suite – yes, EK enclosed first – most definitely.
Can you be completely naked on a commercial airplane full of passengers for an extended period of time – yes, in EK and EY showers. Can a woman expose her breasts on an airplane in Y – yes, if she is breastfeeding. Context and intent matters.
Needless to say this guy is gratuitously showing off his chiseled physique of which he is apparently very proud – of course he has mental health issues, he is probably a soft core exhibitionist – but that’s not the point.
Yes, very few people mind when attractive individuals wear as little clothes as possible and parade around – that’s the result of our over serialized society. Don’t forget we have Hooters. And then there was this airline where stewardesses worked the cabin in their bikinis.
No, it is not a hygiene issue – if the airlines gives a top and bottom sheet which is meant for single use before it is washed of course you can sleep shirtless.
This from the guy who joined the Mile High Club?
As long as he looks like this guy I am all for it. Matthew- Are you next?! C’mon, please?
I’m here in Niseko Moiwa and the Chinese are the new “ugly Americans.” Is this guy from China because isn’t “Park” a Korean name?
There is no way that on some of the greatest airlines ever to exist, Pan Am and TWA, that a passenger would parade around shirtless. Honestly, dude – why be such a narcissist? Muslims would be offended.
You guys do know this dude is a fitness influencer, right? So his brand is being jacked so he can be see as an authority on fitness and therefore make money. No different from a person wanting to prove he’s a good investment advisor showing he’s well off.
Also, Lee, Muslims are not a monolith. Some practice very conservative interpretations of Islam, others less conservative. So the better and more accurate comment is that some Muslims would be offended. Members of that group may also be offended by a woman shaking the hand of a man she’s not married to in a business context, so, YMMV.
Two, most of us in the western world live in societies where people are free to restrict their own behavior according to their wishes, whether it be based on the edicts of a man in the sky or a man on the ground or just their own minds. What those people are not free to do is impose their personal restrictions on others. Certain religious groups are very easily offended and while we should always seek to be polite, welcoming and inclusive – we cannot expect the wider western world to be bound by some of the most restrictive religions. I’ll tell you, offended Muslims and anybody else having a conniption fit about this rather unremarkable story the same thing – grow up. You live in a world where people are free to have fun in a way you don’t like. Get over it.
I just hope women don’t follow this ‘trend’ that mr muscles is trying to set. I mean keep some dignity, Ladies.
