This Week: Toronto, Addis Ababa, Bangkok, Saigon, Doha, New York

Oh how I love these weeks, the weeks I spend the literal majority of the time on an airplane.

This week I’m linking up two incredible fares sales I took advantage of — one on Ethiopian Airlines, the other on Qatar Airways.

The Ethiopian trip begins tomorrow morning in Toronto…meaning I get to spend tonight in this delightful city. Despite the weak looney, I have several Canadian clients at Award Expert and am meeting two long-term clients who have become friends tonight. Toronto is a city I have connected through on many occasions but never actually left the airport. I’m looking forward to it.

I’m hoping my Ethiopian Airlines 787 aircraft will feature the new fully lie-flat business class seats on at least one of the two flights. With Ethiopian, it seems you never know until you actually step onboard. After a good flight from Dublin to Los Angeles, I’m looking forward to the onboard service.

I will spend the night in Bangkok (not at the Park Hyatt this time) then connect to Ho Chi Minh City where my return journey will begin on Qatar Airways.

While I considered a long layover to test out the Qatar Airways transit hotel program, I want to get back to my wife, son, and other business as fast as possible so will just be quickly connecting in Doha.

But 14 hours on the A350….#delightful.

Transiting from Kennedy to Newark is not my favorite activity, so I just booked a JetBlue flight back home.

I’m thankful for the job I have and for a supportive wife. It’s going to be a great week.

If you can coordinate your flight times to match, the TG 556 from Bangkok to Ho Chi Minh on October 19th is slated to be operated by a 787. Even if not, you can try and grab a Thai Airways A330 from Bangkok to Ho Chi Minh – seems like a new product that you haven’t tried before, and is probably better than everything else on the market.

@Alvin, I am bummed out — this would have been great. I’ve already got a VietJet flight booked from BKK to SGN and even a JetStar backup. Will try to include TG 787 and A350 when I also do the United TG First Class Australia – SE Asia redemption.

The USD 360 priced for an October 19th flight is slightly steep, though you can try to get a points booking.

Looks like a fun trip! Toronto to me isn’t that interesting of a city, just a lot of big office buildings and the CN Tower, though maybe it’s just because I live there. Given that it is your first time there, I am sure you will find a few things to do. There are at least a lot of good international restaurants in the city that you can dine at.

I’d say you have a warped sense of enjoyment. Then again, I get similar enjoyment out of driving 5,000 miles around the country by myself, so the adage about people who live in glass houses throwing stones comes to mind 🙂 Enjoy your trip!
