An Italian Wedding on the Amalfi Coast

Matthew Klint Posted onOctober 11, 2017November 14, 2023 3 Comments

One of the joys of traveling and getting to know others from around the world are the wedding invitations. During a recent trip to Italy I attended an incredible wedding on the Amalfi Coast.

The wedding took place in a beautiful Roman Catholic Church overlooking the town of Vietri sul Mare.

After the ceremony, we headed down the street to a beautiful garden venue where a wedding party would take place for the next eight hours.

If there’s one takeaway from Italian weddings, it is this: you are going to be well-fed. We started in a beautiful garden with breathtaking views. Drinks and finger foods were offered, followed by pizza.

I think the highlight was the hanging Caciocavallo Cheese, which was brimming with flavor and something I’ve never tried before.

Truly, I could have gone home happy then…but I knew things were just getting started.

Around 8pm, we descended one level down and dinner began. Oh what a multi-course feast!

Around 11pm we proceeded down one more level where the bride and groom had their first dance and various speeches were made by loved ones.

It was not until after 1am that dessert served, but oh how it was worth the wait!

Finally, at around 2am, we walked back to our nearby hotel, thrilled at the day we had just experienced.

CONCLUSION

One of the best ways to learn about a culture is by attending a wedding. It wasn’t just the food–it was the conversations as well.

Congratulations to Enrico and Lucia! Thank you for allowing me to be part of your special day.
