Lufthansa’s A220 VIP Configuration Looks Like Yacht

Lufthansa’s Airbus A220 VIP-configuration aircraft looks more like a beautiful yacht than a plane designed for commercial use.

Lufthansa Technik, a division of Lufthansa, recently unveiled its “SkyRetreat” concept for the A220. Rows of seats have been replaced with spacious couches, marble, and glowing ambient lights. The wooden floor and furniture are meant to feel like being on a yacht.

Wieland Timm, Senior Director Sales, VIP & Special Mission Aircraft at Lufthansa Technik, stated:

Although the A220 represents the new entry level of our completions offerings, it already provides an incredible amount of space for breathtaking VIP interiors. Our SkyRetreat concept makes optimum use of this spacious cabin and its technical features will provide our customers with a whole new sense of space and a unique travel experience.

The primary role of Lufthansa Technik is to service aircraft like the A220. But Lufthansa has expanded its role into the aircraft interior business. You might recall I wrote about the Airbus A350 “Flying Penthouse” concept last autumn.

The concept was first revealed at the European Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition (EBACE) in Geneva last week and will be fully reveled at the Monaco Yacht Show in September.

CONCLUSION

I honestly have to wonder who actually buys these planes, but Lufthansa has a whole team of staff at work on this–there must be some demand. I love Lufthansa’s minimalist design of its first class lounges and cabins, thus these renderings caught my eye. Still, I’m wondering if Lufthansa Technik’s time would be better focused on keeping the German presidential aircraft flying…

    That looks a bit more comfortable than my previous short haul flights in business with Lufthansa.
