Review: Lufthansa Express Bus

Matthew Klint Posted onApril 25, 2019November 14, 2023 6 Comments

For cheap and relatively quick service between Munich Airport and central Munich, I found the Lufthansa Express Bus a solid option.

Franz Josef Strauss International Airport is not exactly in the center of things. Thus, you’ll need to budget some extra time to get between central Munich and the airport. An S-Bahn from Frankfurt Airport to Frankfurt Central Station takes 10 minutes. In Munich it takes 41-minutes. With extra luggage and extra stops, that’s an annoying journey.

At the same time, this is not a cheap taxi or Uber trip. I found the Lufthansa Express Bus offered a happy-medium between the two options. With frequent service (every 15 minutes), a relatively comfortable cabin, wi-fi and newspapers onboard, and only 17.00EUR round-trip (or 10.50EUR one-way), it served me well.

As you exit baggage claim at MUC, follow the yellow signs to the bus pick-up area. You can buy your tickets onboard, but it makes sense to buy them online in advance. Not only are they cheaper, but you can download your ticket for safekeeping (the driver will scan it).

Per the schedule below, my bus should have arrived at 6:00 PM. Instead, it arrived at about 6:06 PM. After picking up passengers in other terminals, we entered the Autobahn for the trip into Munich. Traffic was heavy, but moving.

I alighted at Munich Nord / Schwabing and from there found my way to the Andaz Hotel.

On the way back, I retraced my steps and found the pick-up point on the opposite side of the street. An attendant scanned my ticket on the spot and the bus rolled up on time.

CONCLUSION

The Lufthansa Express Bus option won’t be convenient for all people, but if your home or hotel is near one of the stops do consider it…I found it far more comfortable than taking the S-Bahn train.

It’s much more comfortable than the U8 and U1, which can be very crowed during the peak time.

We had bus from Frankfurt to Stradbourg. The Luftansa express bus. We had the worst experience. We had to run around all the airport to pick up the luggages as they were dropped off in a different location. Then we had to walk outside and there was no sign for the bus. The bus driver arrived and had a bad attitude, arrogant, not helpful and did not helped with the luggages. My husband and I helped the old people load their luggages in the bus. Worst experience ever!!!!.
