We now have new details about the new Lufthansa First Class coming to select Airbus A350 jets in 2024. It will be exclusive. It will be beautiful. And Lufthansa will include a “First Class Suite Plus” that offers spacious accommodations for up to two guests.
New Lufthansa A350 “First Class Suite Plus” Will Include Double Bed In Center Suite
Beyond a pair of pictures, Lufthansa has not revealed many details about its new first class product set to debut onboard the Airbus A350-900 in 2024 as part of Lufthansa’s new “Allegris” premium cabin refresh.
But today Lufthansa revealed more details about its new first class, including the introduction of a new “First Class Suite Plus” that will offer an even more exclusive first class experience.
The (one meter) wide suite will be flanked by individual suites on either side. The A350 will feature only four suites (three if you you count the First Class Suite Plus as a single suite). Each will feature:
- floor-to-ceiling walls
- closing doors
- large tray tables
- wide screens
- individual thermostats
Lufthansa CEO Jens Ritter likened it to a hotel room, explaining:
“Every guest has their own understanding of premium, which is why we focus on maximum individuality and exclusivity. The First Class Suite Plus conveys the feeling of privacy and individuality similar to a hotel room – only at an altitude of eleven kilometers.”
It looks amazing!
Award Space Implications
It almost goes without saying that with only three (or maybe four) seats on the aircraft, first class partner awards will likely be extremely difficult to obtain, if available at all. In that sense, enjoy the “old” first class on the 747-8, A380, or A340 while you still can. The good news (if you want to call it that) is that there is no indication that these aircraft will be updated (certainly the older Airbus widebodies will not) with the new first class, so there is a decent chance that it will still be possible to score first class award seats with the older product. And of course, at this point, it is all speculation.
CONCLUSION
Lufthansa has unveiled more details about its new first class product including a previously-unannounced First Class Suite Plus. The new product will debut on the A350 in 2024 and will usher in a whole new era for the first class experience on Lufthansa.
That looks pretty freaking good actually. It’s almost a step beyond what LH F currently offers (hard product wise, of course) and might be the best looking F cabin by the time it comes out.
The single seats look awesome and might just rival EK new suites. But the double? I am really not sure what they are after here as I see a lot of flaws. A bit of German over engineering. I would never choose this for two people. One side access to the aisle as far as I can see and sharing the same entertainment? I think this is a novelty as to the double bed which will be interesting the first time and get old really fast. My take is that these will become seats they give to one person (high yield passengers like HON Circle) because after a few months and everyone learns they will never be booked. Really, I think this was a huge mistake on the part of LH. I can’t even imagine what they were thinking or if they really have a clue what people want on a flight.
As to the reduction of F seats I think you can pretty much surmise that for most of us it this marks the end. There will never be redemptions for these. Like Air France they can let them go empty or upsell paid J fare passengers quite easily. The end of LH F is near for most of us.
That double seat is frankly going to be sold as a single 99% of the time in my opinion. It’s frankly not wide enough for two people to really sleep comfortably which means couples who can afford to do this are likely to still book two seats.
And yeah like AF a 3 seat F cabin will almost never have anything but full fare traffic or expensive paid upgrades.
