Lufthansa Suspends Iran Flights Over Missile Fears

Initial reports suggesting all airspace over Tehran was closed for military drills were incorrect, but Lufthansa has extended its flight suspension to Tehran even as Arab allies warn Iran not to attack Israel.

Lufthansa Flights To Iran Remain Suspended

Israel targeted the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria on April 1, 2024 in a pinpoint bombing campaign that killed 16 people, including Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahed, Quds Force commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The news sparked outrage and Iran has promised retaliation, leading Israel to threaten an attack against Iran if it does retaliate.

These escalating threats are a growing concern, especially after similar tensions led to Iran shooting down a Ukraine Airlines passenger jet on January 8, 2020 flying from Tehran (IKA) to Kyiv (KBP).

No Western carriers currently fly to Syria or Yemen, where Houthi rebels have launched attacks against Western and Israeli targets at the behest of Tehran. But Western carriers continue to serve the Islamic Republic, with Lufthansa and Austrian flying to Tehran.

In light of the attack, Lufthansa suspended its Frankfurt (FRA) – Tehran service and just announced that it will extend that suspension at least through April 13, 2024 (flights were set to resume today). Meanwhile, Austrian Airlines flights to continue to the Iranian capital because from Vienna (VIE), unlike Lufthansa, crews can make same-day turns and do not have to overnight in Tehran.

No other Western carriers fly into Iran, which mostly connects to the West by Iranian and Turkish carriers.

While Iran did not close its airspace over Tehran, it did issue a NOTAM suspending visual flight rules for two days, until April 13, 2024. At the urging of the US, countries including Saudi Arabia and Qatar have asked Iran not to attack Israel in retaliation for the Syrian strike.

IL will face severe consequences for its attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran. A so-called “democratic state”, the only one in the Middle East (we are constantly reminded), bombing an embassy is absolutely ridiculous. Another crime by IL adding to the long list, backed by their Amerikanski apologists.

The only crime Iran cares about is Israel’s existence.

If Iran was willing to live and let live, they would have every right to condemn attacks. But swearing to keep fighting while Israel exists, and at the same time complaining that Israel fights back – that is hypocrisy.

And the attack was not on the embassy but a nearby apartment, and targeted Iranians actively involved in war against Israel. A military target attacked during war.

First, Israel DID NOT bomb an embassy – Israel bombed the headquarters of Irans Al Quds force in Syria – This building was attached to the Syrian Consulate -The Al Quds force sole mission is the destruction of Israel – Second, Iran is playing games utilizing their Proxy forces to attack Israel – Iran is playing a very dangerous game here, taunting the west, so far they have been able to avoid direct conflict due to Israel and the United States showing restraint – But enough is enough – Time to wipe the Ayatollah, his oil and his nuclear program off the map – This should have been done years ago..

Seems like Netenyahu and his co-horts are the ones trying to engulf the region in a war, knowing the US will bail them out no matter what hell they might start.

Israel has lost it’s “right” to exist (never actually had a right to begin with).

Makes me happy that I will live long enough to see them pushed into the ocean.

IL should never have existed. In 1948 IL was poisoning Palestinians water supply (and using other chemical and biological weapons) to make them leave, and this took place AFTER the Nuremberg trials when the world knew what disgusting crimes Nazi Germany had done? It was literally in every newspaper (when they had a MASSIVE circulation).

“Israel poisoned the wells and water supplies of certain Palestinian towns and villages as part of their biological warfare program during the 1948 Palestine war, including a successful operation that caused a typhoid epidemic in Acre in early May 1948, and an unsuccessful attempt in Gaza that was foiled by the Egyptians in late May.[3]”

Just think about that. Imagine some state right now releasing some form of Covid against people. Think of the outrage.

        Keep defending it.

Vile accusations repeated by academics and quoted in Wikipedia don’t make a truth.

For centuries Jews were accused of well poisoning, and Arabs copied the accusations in their campaign to keep the middle east free of Jews.

Palestinians population in the west back and Gaza grew rapidly after the 1967 Israeli occupation, partly because Israel built modern sewage treatment facilities. Before that, Arabs in Palestine preferred to spill their sewage in the street and blame the Jews for the outcome.

Embassies get bombed all the time. The US embassy in Nairobi comes to mind. There was a little incident once at the US consulate in Benghazi. The US accidentally bombed a Chinese embassy once. I also think I remember another little incident that happened at the US embassy in Tehran in the late 70s. Ecuador raided the Mexican embassy in Quito just last week.

This is a good sabre rattling incident, and I’m not one to defend Israel much these days, but Iran really doesn’t want to shoot a missile at Israel.

More relevantly, the Israeli embassy is Buenos Aires, attached by Iranian proxies in 1992, killing 29.

And Iran certainly wants to shoot missiles at Israel, and does so every day in the last months. But they do it via their proxies, mostly Hezbollah and the Yemenite Houthis. Proxies allow then to violate every law of war, while being outraged about every claimed violation by Israel.

There was some shady weapons and other smuggling deals going on that involved people associated with members of both the Jewish and Arab community in Argentina and Paraguay at the time, and some of it was via Israeli operators in Buenos Aires. The ties to Lebanon and Iran were very strong, but it was a weird mix of Shia, Sunni, Catholic and Jewish individuals that were partners in various shady stuff via Paraguay at the time in the lead up to that attack in Buenos Aires. Notably, Menem and his chief of staff were playing very nicely with the Saudis at the time while the Iranians weren’t so thrilled with that.

Regardless of what you think, an attack on a diplomatic or consular building this month isn’t justifiable by a bloody awful attack 30+ years ago.
