Breaking: No Survivors In Boeing 737-800 Crash In Iran

Matthew Klint Posted onJanuary 8, 2020 9 Comments

A Ukraine International Airlines 737-800 crashed near Tehran’s Imam Khomeini on Wednesday morning. All 180 onboard are feared dead.

Iranian media has reported the Boeing jet crashed shortly after takeoff near Parand, a suburb of Tehran. Iranian and media plus photos and videos of the wreckage strongly suggest there were no survivors (a huge fireball was witnessed).

Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 was scheduled to take off at 5:15AM from Tehran, heading toward Boryspil International Airport in Kyiv. The flight actually took off nearly an hour later. It is not clear if any technical issues were diagnosed prior to takeoff that may have prompted the delay. You can see where the aircraft went down via Flightradar24.

This incident comes just hours after Iran attacked two U.S. military bases in Iraq in retaliation for the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani.

I flew on on a Ukraine International Airlines 737-800 from Istanbul to Kyiv a couple years ago…perhaps even on the same aircraft. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased.

This is a developing story.

Disturbing on 2 levels: the personal tragedy as in any crash but also the fact that it’s a 737-800 , the small jet on which I feel most ‘safe’/at ease/comfortable.
There is a video on twitter of it on fire and exploding mid-air. Awful.

Ukraine, Iran. Has to be some trump angle.

It was the morning after Orthodox Christmas. My heart goes out to the families.

My first thought was perhaps due to the socio-economic issues in Ukraine, perhaps this plane hadn’t been well maintained. However:

    https://www.cnbc.com/2020/01/08/boeing-737-passenger-plane-crashes-in-iran-state-news-agencies-report.html
“During a press conference, a spokesperson for the airline said there had been nothing wrong with the plane which was last serviced on Jan. 6 and that the crew were very experienced.”
“Ukraine International Airlines received the 737-800 jet in 2016 when it was new, according to Flightradar24, a flight-tracking site. “

Likely foul play on the part of Iran. Funny, they call us the “Great Satan”….

On the contrary many people are saying, and i don’t know if it’s true, but many people are saying that the plane had the two Russian prostitutes that trump had golden showers with and they were going to go public with many other allegations against him. Again i don’t know if it’s true but a lot of people are saying this.

It somehow fits his character though, and jocks that are his supporters.

Andy: Why exactly is this likely? Iran has nothing to gain by shooting down a jet.

There was shrapnel holes visible on the fuselage, which was similar to what appeared on a commercial jet, which was shot down a few years ago, over the Ukraine, by a surface to air missile. It is possible that a trigger happy Iranian fired a surface to air missile at the jet, bringing it down. It’s happened before, whereby commercial aircraft are shot down in error.

Extremely unlikely. Perhaps it was the USS Vincennes ( equally unlikely)

While not surprising, it is sad to see the growing list of carriers retiring this superjumbo jet. On Malaysia Airlines, I flew the #A380 once from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to London (LHR) and had the entire first class cabin to myself (full review on the blog). It was a beautiful flight that I will always remember.
