Lufthansa has unveiled new special edition Porsche Design-branded pajamas in its first class cabins, which I sampled on my flight to Frankfurt last week. I must admit I prefer these ones to the old ones.
Special Edition Porsche Design Lufthansa First Class Pajamas
The pajamas are still made by Van Laack, a German fashion company with its headquarters in Mönchengladbach that has made PJs for Lufthansa (and SWISS) for many years. But the blue or brown collared shirts are gone and the pajamas now appear to be unisex.
My pajamas were black and the big difference was the Mandarin-style collar, which I think looks more modern (it reminded me a bit of the old Shanghai Tang pajamas in Cathy Pacific first class).
Most importantly, my pajamas were comfortable and the medium sized shirt and large trousers fit well. Pockets remain, which I find essential in pajamas and frankly in any pants.
Other than the label inside the shirt, I did not notice any Porsche branding on the outside. Porsche Design is a German product design studio and brand founded in 1972 by F. A. Porsche, the designer of the original Porsche 911, known for its high-end accessories.
A couple other changes I noticed:
- hot towels are back (yay!)
- La Prairie amenities from the lavatory are gone – in its place are cremes from Augustinus Bader (still expensive, but not quite as premium)
Finally, a flight attendant told me that the contract with Rimowa had officially ended and that there would be no Rimowa-branded amenity kits rotated in. If true, that’s too bad.
CONCLUSION
If you’re flying Lufthansa this month, look for special edition Porsche Design pajamas, which I prefer to the pajamas we’ve seen for years. The poor tired model aside, these are nice-looking PJs that you will want to take with you if you wear PJs at home.
I think the mandarin collar is a nice addition- much more modern. Glad the hot towels are back as well.
Matthew, those selfies are quite striking! You are rocking those PJs!
Matthew, lose the pajamas next time.
Agreed. How about a shirtless selfie?
Stop sexually harassing him.
Only if he holds that rose in his mouth
You know what they say about people with long fingers!
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
@Arthur – Seconded.
The PJ’s are very nice. I would have added an LH/Porshe patch as well. The products in the restroom are a very nice bonus.
Only mentally and physically soft people wear pajamas on a plane. It is an airplane, not a flying hotel.
We’ve got a badass over here.
He’s not wrong. Save the pajamas and avocado mask for home.
I have flown economy class and brought my own pajamas. Nearby passengers are often amused to see me come back with a change of clothes.
If I ever had to fly an ultra longhaul flight in economy, I would also put pajamas on.
Re: “It is an airplane, not a flying hotel.”, au contraire, for a long flight, particularly in 1st or biz (with lay flat seating – ie a bed) it’s essentially a hotel, some even have showers.
Matthew: PLEASE, smile for the selfies you’re going to post. The photos above look like mug shots for someone just arrested for running over a bunch of people by intentionally driving his car though a parade or a protest.
Nah, Matthew giving Blue Steel is hot.
Where have you been?
Sooner or later on a long haul you’re going to have to go on a nature break with an almost 100% chance of getting your shoes and clothes wet with previous passengers urine misses and splashes. It’s disgusting. I recall seeing a girl go into a restroom I knew to have a wet floor (not me) in her socks only then climb over other passengers seats like a gymnast and transferring floor urine to other passengers seats. The benefit of pajamas is something you can toss aside and prevent getting urine on your arrival clothes. And of course sitting on where someone’s urine soaked socks have been. Personally, I don’t eat for 2 days before a long haul and I don’t eat on the plane. I hate airplane bathrooms.
That bad?
Fake news! Porsche design by van Laack pijamas has been there for years. I remember there was even picture in FT few years ago. Probably some stock leftovers as are Rimowa amenity kits.
No, it really hasn’t except for special edition, limited run issues. But thanks for your opinion.
When I have received the same limited edition pijama personally too at least few years ago, that means that it has been there for years along with the usual van Laack brown one. It will dissapear soon and the usual van Laack returns.
I also received those exact same pj’s about three years ago. Would agree this is a fake news story or one just made up for whatever reason. I am actually even thinking about asking LH if this is new or now, but don’t really want to waste my time or hear spin on it. Either way, totally not new, not sure where the authorbhas been for the last several years.
Clearly flying in Lufthansa First Class a heck of a lot more than you have…
Because I have dozens of pairs of PJs from many years of flying in LH F and have never received these ones.
They may be offered one month occasionally, but have not been the main pajamas. Flight attendant also said they were “rare.” If they are offered once a year or once every two years, then I would tend to agree.
That kind of response demands this kind : https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/lufthansa-austrian-swiss-brussels-lot-other-partners-miles-more/2017738-lh-lx-first-class-longhaul-during-coronavirus-4.html
Posts #36 and #46. Any remarks to your post? 🙂
Pajamagate! We all await a response from the most humble and least entitled blogger out there.
Good they rotate this in occasionally. Nice job.
Well, giving them in June and in September and between those months could be once in a year in a row but during four months and is not occasionally. It is not new product and not unvailed item as you wrote. If you have not received it during the years, that does not mean that it is something rare or even new product. On my side, I close the issue.
The FA told me they were a brand new style and not previously issued. So…
I really do think you look sharp in those pics. Love the pj’s. A clever look for you. I can’t wait to fly with Lufthansa now. Thanks!
You look like a crew of the “Enterprise” vessel.
Captain Klint, do we go to the correct direction?
🙂
They look great!
*Pyjamas
Whilst I generally prefer the more honourable British English, not for that word.
Fascinating about the switch away from La Prairie in the restroom. I flew Swiss F a few weeks ago and they still had the full-size La Prairie hand cream, which was much appreciated!
Matthew, does each passenger get to make separate size selections for the shirt and pants, as you did? That would be very nice. For many airline pajamas, the two items come bundled together as a set, and you get only one size choice for both.
You can mix and match. I was lucky that there were no medium trousers left because the large ones fit perfectly.
I hate the comment section. Or maybe just the comments.
Fortunate to have fleet more than a few times over the last few years and can say I love my PJs at home as much as on the plane. Thanks LH.
They look rather nice and I do like the collar, but the scarf seems to have been ehanced away. Is that the case?
If yes, what a pity, I really liked the scarf!
What scarf?
Pajamas???? Really??? Should spend more time reading on board planes!
Matthew found good lighting & went crazy.
Well, he does look like a model.
